What’s Her Secret? It’s All In The Makeup

Compiled By Staff Writer Rick Bo

Leave it to Esquire magazine to unearth “Hollywood’s next dream girl,” the one and only Allegra Coleman.

“She is without blind vanities,” gushes guru-tothe-stars Deepak Chopra. “Her nature is spongy and luminescent.”

Not to mention fictitous. “Allegra,” actually Ali Larter of Cherry Hill, N.J., is a hoax, part of a poker-faced parody of the Hollywood star machine that includes pix of her with Chopra, Quentin Tarantino and David Schwimmer.

Esquire says “sophisticated” readers will recognize it’s a spoof.

“We’re not trying to fool anyone in a nefarious way,” editor Ed Kosner told USA Today. “We’re trying to make a point about celebrity journalism.”

Loose talk

Paul Bartel, on directing Marla Maples Trump in an episode of ABC’s “Clueless” (in The New York Daily News): “She has that certain je ne sais quoi, that ineffable something … of a blonde with big bosoms.”

Has his absence made the heart grow Fonzier?

Henry Winkler turns 51 today.

Darius Rucker for music? Well, that’s a hoot!

Among GQ’s real-life “Men of the Year”: Michael Jordan, sports; Jerry Seinfeld, TV entertainment; Mel Gibson, movies; Tom Brokaw, TV news; Bill Gates, business; I.M. Pei, art and architecture; Giorgio Armani, fashion; Norman Mailer, literature; and Darius Rucker, music.

We suspect that most models aren’t too swift

A footnote, so to speak, to Tuesday’s item about Kim Alexis winning her age group in a charity benefit race: According to Fitness magazine, Alexis runs a mile in 6.8 minutes, compared to a plodding 10.3 minutes for fellow supermodel Cindy Crawford - which also happens to be Oprah Winfrey’s typical time.

Sounds like Dave needs to learn to count to 10

And speaking of Cindy Crawford, she was reportedly in tears following an appearance on David Letterman’s “Late Show” last week, during which the grouchy host mocked her eyeshadow (likening it to black eyes) and her new book about how to do makeup. A repentant Letterman sent flowers the following day, and a forgiving Crawford told a reporter: “He was just in a bad mood.”

It’s not really her girl, but that’s immaterial

Finally, a follow-up to Madonna’s furor over “Hard Copy” airing clandestine video footage of her with new daughter Lourdes: The Globe’s “world exclusive” photo of mother and child, it turns out, is actually a year-old picture of Madonna holding another baby, the nephew of her boyfriend Carlos Leon. Editor Tony Frost, who admitted the tabloid shelled out a “reasonably healthy amount of money” for the bogus shot, took it in stride, saying: “This picture clearly illustrates Madonna’s joy of motherhood.”
