Swollen Lymph Node Sidelines Butler

Associated Press

Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Brett Butler, sidelined most of last year by tonsil cancer, missed his first start of this season Monday night because of a swollen lymph node on the left side of his jaw.

After being examined by an ear, nose and throat specialist, he returned to Dodger Stadium after the game between L.A. and the New York Mets started.

“Brett’s past history is what magnifies this event,” team physician Dr. Michael Mellman said. “(But) we don’t have any reason to believe there’s a recurrence of his cancer.”

Antibiotics were prescribed.
