Downtown Hearing At Cda High School

From Staff And Wire Reports

A public hearing on downtown redevelopment and the future of McEuen Field is being moved to Coeur d’Alene High School.

The hearing is part of the Dec. 16 City Council meeting. It begins at 7 p.m. in the Coeur d’Alene High School auditorium.

The council voted to move the meeting to accommodate the large crowd it anticipates will turn out for the hearing. It originally selected the Lake City High School auditorium but it wasn’t available.

Last summer the City Council commissioned a Virginia consultant to draft a plan for helping downtown businesses attract more customers. Among other things, the HyettPalma plan suggests a master plan that includes revamping the Third Street Boat Launch and McEuen Field.

That has sparked the formation of the McEuen Preservation Alliance by people who fear the plan means another effort to close the softball fields, basketball courts, tennis courts and boat launch.

The Lake City Coalition, which supports the redevelopment plan, says there will be no changes to McEuen Field without significant public input.
