Helen Hough Spokane

Private service for Helen M. Hough, 94, will be at a later date. Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Hough, who was born in Boston, died Sunday.

In 1944 she moved to Los Angeles.

She worked for the Santa Fe Railroad until retirement in 1967.

Mrs. Hough moved to Spokane in 1968.

Her husband died in 1938.

She was a member of Pro-America and College Women.

Survivors include a daughter, Shirley West of Spokane; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Union Gospel Mission or the Alzheimer’s Association.

Ilene Cox Post Falls

Graveside service for Ilene L. Cox, 58, will be at 11 a.m. today at the JumpOff Joe Cemetery in Valley, Wash. Danekas Funeral Chapel in Colville, Wash., is in charge of arrangements.

Born in Colville, Mrs. Cox died Sunday.

She graduated in 1957 from Colville High School in Colville.

In 1960 she married Roger Cox in Colville and they moved to various places including California and Philadelphia, and then to Seattle in 1973.

Mrs. Cox worked for the Boeing Co. in Seattle as an executive secretary until her retirement in 1995.

They moved to Post Falls in 1996.

Mrs. Cox is survived by her husband.

Alice McMichael Pullman

Graveside service for Alice K. McMichael, 89, will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Newkirk (Okla.) Cemetery. Kimball Funeral Home in Pullman is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. McMichael, who was born in Arkansas City, Kan., died Thursday.

She taught school in the Arkansas City area and later married Robert McMichael in 1934.

After marriage, she became a homemaker but continued to teach as a remedial tutor.

Her husband preceded her in death.

Mrs. McMichael moved to Derby, Kan., until 1977, when she moved to Pullman.

Survivors include a son, Kirk McMichael of Pullman; a daughter, Christina Gee of Bayfield, Wis.; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Harvey Nelson Spokane

Memorial service for Harvey F. Nelson, 85, is planned for this summer in Glengary, Idaho.

Mr. Nelson, who was born in Racine, Wis., died Thursday.

He graduated from high school in 1930 in Racine.

In 1936 he graduated from the University of Idaho with a Bachelor of Science degree in forestry. Mr. Nelson was a licensed professional engineer and land surveyor in Washington, Idaho and Oregon.

Mr. Nelson married Dorothy Carver in 1955 in Sandpoint.

He worked for private construction companies including the U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey, Washington State Highway Department and the Department of Licensing Examiners for 37 years. He retired in 1977.

From 1982 to 1986 Mr. Nelson served on the city planning commission in Monroe, Wash.

In 1986 he moved to Spokane from Monroe.

He was a member of the Land Surveyors Association of Washington and University of Idaho Alumni Association.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Nelson; three sons, Bruce Nelson of Livingston, Mont., Mark W.C. Nelson of Otis Orchards and Lt. Col. Laurence Nelson of Fort Leonard Wood, Mo.; and eight grandchildren.

Lloyd Ridout Spokane

Private family memorial service for Lloyd Quinn Ridout, 44, will be held. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

A lifetime Spokane resident, Mr. Ridout died Friday.

He graduated from North Central High School and worked as a welder for Red Iron Corp. in Spokane.

Survivors include his wife, Susan; a son, Jaime Jahn of Spokane; his father, Leland Ridout of Spokane; his mother, Phyllis Ridout of Spokane; three sisters, Linda Peterson of Pacifica, Calif., Sharon Davidson of Spokane and Sandra Roberts of Glendale, Ariz.; and a brother, Jeffrey Ridout of El Paso, Texas.

Alberta Morris Chewelah, Wash.

Service for Alberta Louise Morris, 89, is set for 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Schanzenbach Funeral Home in Chewelah. Burial will follow at West Hill Memorial Park in Yakima.

Mrs. Morris, who was born in Olds, Alberta, died Monday.

She moved to Chewelah with her husband in 1967 from Yakima after their retirement.

Mrs. Morris was a member of the Addy Grange and the Eagles Lodge in Yakima.

Her husband, Ivan Morris, died in 1989.

Survivors include a son, Jim Morris of Laughlin, Nev.; 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Cleo Cerenzia Spokane

Memorial service for Cleo M. Cerenzia, 78, will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Heritage Funeral Home.

Mrs. Cerenzia, a 60-year Spokane resident, died Monday.

She was born in Butte, Mont., and graduated from high school in Coeur d’Alene in 1936.

She moved to Spokane and was a homemaker.

She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Ross; a daughter, Janice Salvage of Spokane; a son, Dave Cerenzia of Renton, Wash.; a sister, Rae June Cantonwine of Spokane; and a grandson.

Marietta Bepple Spokane

Graveside service for Marietta J. Bepple, 78, was Tuesday at Fairmount Memorial Park.

Mrs. Bepple, a lifetime Spokane resident, died Friday.

She worked as a counselor for social services.

Her husband, Art Bepple, died in 1969.

Survivors include a son, Michael Stai, and a daughter, Marilyn Powers, both of Spokane; a sister, Beatrice Clemmens of Spokane; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Byron Skaug Sandpoint

Service for Byron M. Skaug, 66, was Tuesday at the First Baptist Church in Harrison, Idaho. Burial was at Harrison Cemetery.

Mr. Skaug, who was born in Portland, died Dec. 7.

He attended schools in Tacoma and Sandpoint before graduating from Harrison High School in 1948.

Mr. Skaug served with the Navy during the Korean War and later attended North Idaho Junior College. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Idaho State University in Pocatello.

He did his graduate study at the University of California at Los Angeles and earned a Master of Arts degree from Oregon State University and also did doctoral studies at the University of Oregon and Reed College.

Mr. Skaug taught public school and was involved in school administration in Oregon and Sandpoint and was professionally involved with the Job Corps Program in Oregon.

After his retirement from education in America, he taught school in Colombia for two years.

Mr. Skaug had also been a skin diver searching for gold in Alaskan rivers and sailed the length of the Mediterranean Sea. He was nearing the completion of a four-year boat trip around the globe and was planning to move to Sandpoint this summer.

Survivors include five children, Wanda Fullwiler of Oregon, Daryl, Jason and Whittier Skaug, all of Calgary, Alberta, and Judith Moore of British Columbia; a sister, Caroline Catling of Spokane; and a brother, Joe Skaug of Jerome, Idaho.

Adah Kozakiewicz Spokane

Service for Adah A. Kozakiewicz, 74, was Monday at Pines Cemetery Mausoleum.

Mrs. Kozakiewicz, a lifetime Spokane resident, died Friday.

She worked as a freight loader for a railroad.

Her husband, Wilfred “Pat” Smith, died in 1980.

Survivors include two sons, Gary Winfrey and Louis Paeper; two daughters Penny Paeper and Judith Smith, all of Spokane; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Keith Stirn Spokane

Memorial service for Keith L. Stirn, 70, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home.

Mr. Stirn, a 55-year Spokane resident, died Saturday.

He was born in McGill, Nev., and served in the Coast Guard during World War II.

Mr. Stirn worked as a commercial painter for many years.

Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Betty; two sons, Patrick and Michael Stirn, both of Spokane; a daughter, Randi Stirn of Spokane; two sisters, Elsie Slater of Spokane and Betty Greenwood of Wenatchee; a brother, Bud Stirn of Pend Oreille Lake, Idaho; and five grandchildren.

Rose Kolstad Spokane

Memorial service for Rose G. Landfried Kolstad, 76, is planned for the spring. The Cremation Society of Washington is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Kolstad, a 44-year Spokane resident, died Monday.

She was born in Ryder, N.D.

She was a housekeeper and a member of the auxiliary to Eagles Lodge No. 2.

Survivors include two sons, David and Dennis Landfried, both of Spokane; a sister, Irene Hustad of Spokane; numerous brothers and sisters in North Dakota, South Dakota and Arizona and two grandsons.
