Discussion Group To Study World Faiths

Nina Culver Correspondent

“Many Paths, One Destination” is the name of a new discussion group that will examine world religions at Covenant Christian Church, 5616 S. Palouse Highway.

The goal in forming the group, which will be led by Pastor Micahel Rice-Sauer, is to allow participants to explore other faiths and for their own faith to be deepened.

In his own study of other religions, says Rice-Sauer, he has found things that hold true in his own faith.

“I do believe that we are called to be one planet and one people,” says Rice-Sauer. His hope is not to just foster tolerance of other religions but to truly honor other religious traditions.

“We may even find that we are not that different at all,” he said.

The group first will by study Hinduism and later Buddhism, Chinese philosophy, Islam, Native American spirituality, Judaism and mysticism.

The group will meet the fourth Tuesday of each month from 7 to 9 p.m. at the church.

The discussion group is free, and all are invited to attend. Child care will be available if requested in advance. For more information, call the church office at 448-1311.

‘Conversation’ rescheduled

“A Conversation With Georgia O’Keefe” will be presented by Sara Edlin Marlowe at 7 p.m. on Wednesday at Spokane Unitarian Universalist Church, 4340 W. Fort George Wright Drive.

This program was originally scheduled Nov. 20 and was rescheduled due to the ice storm.

Tickets are $12 and can be purchased by calling the church office at 325-6383. Proceeds will help buy an outdoor sign for the church.

Eating disorders will be topic

First Presbyterian Church is offering a class titled “Eating Disorders: What Are They? What Can We Do?”

The class will be from 7:30 to 9 p.m. next Thursday. It will describe eating disorders and offer indicators to learn if someone has or is developing an eating disorder.

The free class will be at the church, located at 318 S. Cedar.

No advance registration is required. For more information, call 747-1058, ext. 112.

Bake sale will assist mission trip

Youth of First Presbyterian Church are holding a bake sale at the church this weekend to raise money for their Easter project. More than 100 high school students will travel to Tijuana, Mexico, to help build 11 homes for the poor.

Bake sale hours will be 5 to 7 p.m. on Saturday and 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Sunday.
