Wilbur High Senior Wins Scholarship From Dar

Kyle Desautel, an All-American Scholar and a member of the National Honor Society, has won a $500 scholarship from the Washington State Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

Desautel, a member of the Colville Confederated Tribe, is a senior at Wilbur High School and is listed in the Who’s Who Among High School Students. He is the son of William and Patricia Desautel of Coulee Dam.

Six Webelos Scouts from Cub Scout Pack 340 at Moran Prairie Elementary have earned the Arrow of Light, Cub Scouting’s highest award.

They are Ben Eierdam, Tom Followill, Brady McCarrell, Cameron Moore, Jake Robles and Mike Teegarden.

They are now members of either Boy Scout Troop 313 or 333.

More than 400 youths and adults attended the recent Eastern Washington Drug-Free Youth Rally in Riverfront Park, where awards were given.

Recieving Governor Recognition Awards were:

Bemiss and Regal elementary schools, Othello High School’s S.A.D.D. and Natural Helpers groups; and Ferris High School’s S.A.D.D. group.

Crystal Swope and Jonathan Vaughn of Lidgerwood Elementary received the Rap Song Award.

Michelle Carver, Central Valley High School, received the Drug-Free Student of the Year Award.

Georgeanna Tinney, Crosswalk, received the Student Achievement Award for Becoming Drug Free.

Gunthild Sondhi, Spokane County drug and treatment specialist, received the award for Outstanding Community Adult for Prevention Efforts.

Riverside High School received the award for Outstanding School Group for Prevention Efforts.

Sherry Rux, Reardan, received the award for Outstanding School Personnel for Prevention Efforts.

Inland Northwest high school students placed well at the recent Washington Music Education Association’s solo and ensemble contest.

Ben Moll, a senior at Ferris, won first place for mallet percussion and third place for timpani.

Dan Delaney, a Ferris sophomore, won third place in the vocal division.

Ryan Keberle, a junior at Mead High School, took first place in the trombone division, competing against 16 other trombonists.

Katie Cashatt, a high school senior, has won the $1,000 Hamblen Alumni Scholarship. The scholarship, established by the Hamblen Elementary Parent Teacher Group, honors an alumni for school achievements and community involvement.
