Dennis Morrison Pullman

Memorial service for Dennis J. “Denny” Morrison, a longtime Pullman resident, will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Pullman. Kimball Funeral Home in Pullman is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Morrison, 78, who was born in Sac City, Iowa, died Saturday.

He was former assistant to the president at Washington State University.

He graduated from the University of Missouri School of Journalism and later worked for the Missourian, and Huronite and Daily Plainsman in South Dakota as a reporter and night editor. He also worked as a city editor for the Evening Huronite and Daily Plainsman.

Mr. Morrison served in the Air Force during World War II and later worked as editor in chief for the Strategic Bombing Survey in Washington, D.C.

In 1941 he married Eleanor Devine in Columbia, Mo., and in 1947 they moved to Pullman.

He worked at WSU for 39 years as an editor of the Office of Publications, assistant to the director of the Institute of Agricultural Sciences, news services director, and in 1986, retired as assistant to the president.

Mr. Morrison was a member of the Washington State School Directors Association, Whitman County School Directors Association, and served on the Pullman School Board for 32 years.

He was also a member of Sigma Delta Chi, Crimson Circle, American College Public Relations Association, Council For Advancement and Support of Education, Omicron Delta Kappa, Washington State Future Farmers of America, and Phi Mu Alpha.

He is survived by his wife; three daughters, Susan Percival of Seattle, Sharon Morrison of Manhattan, N.Y., and Judith Morrison of Redlands, Calif.; a son, John Morrison of Las Vegas; a sister Berneice Ferguson of Charleston, Ill.; and six grandchildren.

James Atha Kingston, Idaho

Visitation for James B. “Jack” Atha, 75, will be from 6-7 p.m. today at the Kellogg Funeral Chapel. Service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral chapel. Shoshone Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Atha, who died Sunday, was born in Missouri.

He moved to the Silver Valley in 1939 from Missouri and served in the Navy during World War II.

Mr. Atha returned to North Idaho after his military service and worked for the Bunker Hill Smelter for 16 years, and then the Bunker Hill Mine for 26 years.

He was a member of the Bunker Hill 20-year Club, the Osburn Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the Baptist Church of Kingston.

Survivors include a daughter, Annette Walden of Coeur d’Alene; five sons, Jim Atha of Medimont, Idaho, Gerry Atha of Alaska, Don Atha of Spokane, Dan Atha of Grandview, Wash., and James Moore of Kingston; three sisters, Elizabeth Poulson of North Dakota, and Lois Glass and JoAnne Hawkins, both of Missouri; 15 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Baptist Church of Kingston.

Ann (Lambe) McDonald Spokane

Funeral Mass for Ann Catherine (Lambe) McDonald, 84, will be at 11 a.m. today at St. Aloysius Catholic Church. Burial will follow at the Holy Cross Cemetery. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. McDonald, who was born in West Hope, N.D., died Monday.

She was a graduate of the College of St. Benedict in St. Joseph, Minn., and completed an internship in dietetics at General Hospital in Cincinnati.

Mrs. McDonald worked as a teacher and dietician and retired as a case worker for the state of Washington.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Duncan.

Survivors include two sons, Thomas McDonald of Englewood, Colo., and Edward McDonald of Bellevue, Wash.; and seven grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society.

John Hunton Spokane

Vigil service for John J. Hunton, 67, will be at 4 p.m. today at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home. Funeral Mass is planned for 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Augustine Catholic Church. There will be private inurnment.

Mr. Hunton, a lifetime Spokane resident, died Sunday.

He was a graduate of North Central High School and served in the Army during the Korean War.

Mr. Hunton was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He is survived by two daughters, Michele Hunton of Seattle, and Deborha Hooper of Spokane; three sons, Mark Hunton of Walla Walla, Luke Hunton of Seattle, and John Hunton of South Carolina; his mother, Marguerite Hunton of Spokane; a sister, Marguerite “Dede” Lattanzio of Spokane; three brothers, Robert, William and Thomas Hunton, all of Spokane; and nine grandchildren.

Pearl Hendershott Usk, Wash.

Service for Pearl Gladys Hendershott, 70, will be at 1 p.m. today at the Sherman-Knapp Funeral Home in Newport, Wash. Burial will be at the Newport Cemetery.

Mrs. Hendershott, who was born in Sisseton, S.D., died Thursday.

In 1944 she married Waldo Hendershott in Vancouver, Wash.

She had lived in Usk for 52 years and worked at the mink farm near Usk. She and her husband later owned the Triangle Restaurant in Usk.

Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Sandi Kaler and Kathy Sampler, both of Usk; a son, Tom Hendershott of Chattaroy; a sister, Lillian Swanson of Aberdeen, S.D.; 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Usk Community Center.

Charles Poree Spokane

Service for Charles G. Poree, 82, is planned for 1:30 p.m. today at the Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church. Burial will be at the Greenwood Memorial Terrace. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Poree, who was born in Berwick, La., died June 4.

He served in the Army from 1941 to 1945, and in 1948 enlisted in the Air Force. He retired as a sergeant in 1963.

In 1956 he moved to Spokane and was a member of the Disabled American Veterans and the Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church.

His wife, Rose, died in 1992.

Mr. Poree is survived by two brothers, Wilford Frank of New Orleans and Alcid Perossier of Mermentau, La.

Rose Grashio Spokane

Vigil service for Rose E. Grashio, 81, will be 7 p.m. today at the Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home. Funeral Mass is set for 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Aloysius Catholic Church. Burial will be at the Holy Cross Cemetery.

Miss Grashio, who was born in Spokane, died Sunday.

She had worked as an accountant for Washington Trust Bank and was a member of St. Aloysius Parish.

Survivors include a brother, Samuel Grashio of Spokane; three sisters, Laura Parkins, Clara Krumm and Lena Barber, all of Spokane.

Memorial contributions may be made to Morning Star Boys Ranch or Gonzaga Preparatory School.

Margaret (Mattes) Boyd Spokane

Memorial service for Margaret (Mattes) Boyd, 80, will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at The Plymouth Congregational Church. Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Boyd, who was born in Reardan, Wash., died Sunday.

She graduated from Lewis and Clark High School and the University of Idaho and later worked as an executive secretary.

She was a member of the Phi Sigma Alpha, Pi Beta Phi Sorority and the Plymouth Congregational Church.

Mrs. Boyd was preceded in death by two husbands, Edward “Ted” Crosby died in 1973, and Harold Boyd in 1994.

Survivors include two sons, Howard Crosby of Sandpoint and Edward Crosby of Spokane; three step-daughters, Sister Dolores Crosby of Everett, Catherine Fergusen of Richland and Antonia Crosby of Boston; and a sister, Katherine Simmons of Spokane.

Donald Erdman Caldwell, Idaho

Graveside service for Donald Theodore Erdman, 79, will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the Forest Cemetery in Coeur d’Alene. Yates Funeral Home in Coeur d’Alene is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Erdman, who was born in Gooding, Idaho, died Friday.

He graduated from Coeur d’Alene High School and worked for the Idaho State Highway Department.

Mr. Erdman served in the Army during World War II. After his military service, Mr. Erdman returned to Coeur d’Alene, where he worked for the Department of Labor. He moved to Wyoming and Colorado and worked as a painting contractor before he retired and moved to Caldwell in 1980.

Mr. Erdman had served as past commander and state commander of the Coeur d’Alene Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Survivors include a daughter, Janet Nielsen of Coeur d’Alene; a son, Brian Erdman of Colorado; his companion, Alice Barr of Caldwell; a sister, Jean Brown of Spokane; a brother, Earl Erdman of Hope, Idaho; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Karen McDonald Spokane

Visitation for Karen Marie McDonald, 48, will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at the Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home. There will be private inurnment.

Mrs. McDonald, a lifetime Spokane resident , died Sunday.

She was a member of the Catholic faith.

Survivors include a son, Tim Byrne; her father, Everett Branson; three sisters, Cheryl McDonald, Sandra Furlett and Debora Ostlund; and two grandchildren.

Wilene Lust Spokane

Service for Wilene A. Lust, 87, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Central Lutheran Church. Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. at the Endicott (Wash.) Cemetery. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Lust, who was born in Winona, Wash., died Friday.

She graduated from Winona High School and later attended beauty school.

She had worked as a beautician in Colfax, Wash., in the 1930s and later moved to Spokane, where she worked as a clerk for The Crescent from 1950 until she retired in 1975.

In 1933 she married Ernest Lust in Endicott. He died in 1972.

Mrs. Lust was member of the Ding-A-Lings.

She is survived by a daughter, Janice Swenson of Spokane; a brother, G.R. “Bob” James of Spokane; 10 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Theodore Brown Spokane

Visitation for Theodore Brown, 80, is scheduled for 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday and 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at the Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home. Funeral Mass is planned for 2 p.m. Saturday at St. John Vianney Catholic Church.

Mr. Brown, who was born in New Waterford, Nova Scotia, died Saturday.

In 1942 he married Evelyn “Sally” Sullivan in Butte, Mont., and they moved to Spokane in 1945.

He worked for Nordstrom and J.C. Penny in maintenance for 40 years, retiring in 1977.

Mr. Brown is survived by his wife; two sons, Ted Brown of Los Gatos, Calif., and Kelly Brown of Spokane; a daughter, Vonnie Lingg of Spokane; two sisters, Katie Burke of Oroville, Calif., and Tina Dosen of Helena; five grandchildren and one great-grandson.

Ruth (Clizer) Peterson Port Orchard, Wash.

Memorial service for Ruth A. (Clizer) Peterson, 46, will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Westminster Congregational Church in Spokane. Lewis Funeral Chapel in Bremerton is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Peterson, who was born in Twin Falls, Idaho, died May 30. She graduated from high school in Davenport, Wash., and received a medical secretary certificate from Spokane Community College. She also attended Eastern Washington University.

Mrs. Peterson worked as a medical transcriptionist for the Rockwood Clinic for 20 years.

In 1990 she moved to Port Orchard and worked for a doctors clinic in Bremerton.

She is survived by her husband of 23 years, James; a daughter, Kristen Peterson and a son, Nathan Peterson, both at home; her parents, Ralph and Lila Clizer of Davenport; and a brother, David Clizer of Omak, Wash.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Westminster Congregational Church organ fund.

Tom Rusdal Gig Harbor, Wash.

Inurnment for Tom Rusdal, 86, was held in at the Lund Church Yard in Norway.

Mr. Rusdal, a 50-year Spokane resident, died Saturday.

He was born in Norway, Mr. Rusdal emigrated to the United States when he was 18 and served in the Army during World War II with the Special Forces.

He was a retired logger and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Survivors include a brother, George Rusdal of Norway; four sisters, Oline Howe, Haldes Modal, Sina Erickson and Ruth Rusdal, all of Norway.
