Man In Car Approaches Youngster Near School
A Coeur d’Alene boy told police that a stranger tried to entice him into a car Thursday afternoon near Sorensen Elementary School.
The boy said he was walking about two blocks south of the school when a man in a blue Mustang drove up and said, “If you get in my car, I’ll buy you lots of candy,” according to a Coeur d’Alene Police report.
The boy said no and the man drove away, according to the report.
Police are warning both adults and children to be wary of strangers. Two teenage girls already have reported that a man tried to get them into his car.
In one case, the girl willingly got in when the man offered her a ride. He then unzipped his pants and exposed himself to her and refused to let her out of the car where she asked him, according to a police report.
She was able to escape unharmed.
Another girl told police that a man pulled her into his car. She was able to escape out a window.
Police do not know if the boy’s report is related to the incidents with the girls.
“We won’t rule that out,” Capt. Carl Bergh said. “We’ll certainly look at that possibility.”
The description the boy gave of the car and the man is somewhat different than the girls’ descriptions.
The boy said the man had short brown hair and a mustache. The car had Idaho license plates.
Anyone with information regarding these incidents is asked to call the Coeur d’Alene Police Department at (208) 769-2320.
