Bosnian Elections Set Back Again

Compiled From Wire Services

Municipal elections in Bosnia, considered a cornerstone of rebuilding the country, were postponed once again Thursday according to the international agency that oversees them.

The 54-nation Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe said that voting would be put off from July to September in order to better organize teams of international monitors and to raise additional money to pay for the election. This latest delay will put the municipal election a full year behind the original date, which coincided with national elections.

U.S. Defense Secretary William Cohen, touring Bosnia and meeting with the U.S. peacekeeping troops, sharply criticized the latest decision to postpone.
