Hints From Heloise

King Features Syndicate

Dear Heloise: Our son is a Boy Scout and Cub Scout leader and our grandson is a Cub Scout. It’s up to me to sew all the patches on their shirts. Maybe it would help others to know that I use transparent tape to hold the patches in place to sew them on. Trying to use pins is very difficult because of the thickness. I enjoy reading your column and have learned many shortcuts. - Carol Zimmerman, Streator, Ill.

Dear Heloise: I enjoy your hints in our newspaper and have used many of the hints I have read. I’d like to give a suggestion for making gift boxes.

I save my laundry detergent boxes and cover them with self-adhesive plastic. They also smell good. Another thing I use is old shoeboxes. After covering the box with self-adhesive plastic, I put a silk rose on top, using glue. This personal touch makes the person receiving the gift more appreciative and it reuses the box. - Effie Raper, New Bern, N.C.
