Elizabeth Kinney Sandpoint

Memorial service for Elizabeth Swartz Kinney, 86, will be held Sunday at 3 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Sandpoint. Coffelt Funeral Home in Sandpoint is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Kinney, who was born in Nebraska, died April 28.

She grew up in Nebraska and graduated from Doane College, Crete, Neb., 1933.

Mrs. Kinney was an English teacher and missionary with the American Board of Foreign Missionaries in China in 1934. She returned to the United States in 1938 and lived in Kansas.

In 1941 she moved to California, where she developed and directed religious studies programs, served on local and national P.E.O. chapters and was a member of Presbyterian Women. She was active in Parent-Teacher Associations, Girl Scouts, Camp Fire Girls and community choirs.

Mrs. Kinney served as office manager for the Pilgrim Pines United Church of Christ Southwest Conference Camp in California for 10 years.

In 1982 she moved to Sandpoint to be near family and was a member of the Martha Sewing Circle of Presbyterian Women.

Mrs. Kinney became an ordained deacon in the First Presbyterian Church in 1984. She was an active member of the Covenant Prayer Group and was honored in 1988 as a life member of the National Presbyterian Women.

She was active in the Pend Oreille Arts Council, the Panida Theater, the Festival at Sandpoint and the Bonner County Human Rights Task Force.

Her husband, Raymond, died in 1969.

Survivors include three children, Bettine Wallin, Grace Levin and Malcolm Kinney; a brother, Leslie Loren Swartz; a sister, Ruth Swartz Hale; nine grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Pend Oreille Arts Council or Bonner County Human Rights Task Force.

Shirley Baker Plummer, Idaho

Memorial service for Shirley L. Baker, 75, will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the Plummer Community Center. Kramer Funeral Home in Tekoa, Wash., is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Baker, who was born in Armour, S.D., died Friday.

Her family moved to Ford, Wash., in 1932. She later graduated from Springdale High School.

In 1941 she married Orville Baker in Coeur d’Alene and they settled in the Spokane area.

While her husband was serving in the military, Mrs. Baker worked in defense plants in Walla Walla and San Diego. After World War II, they moved to Greenacres.

In 1959 the Bakers moved to the Enterprise Valley near Hunters, Wash., where they operated a store and Union 76 gas station for nine years. In 1968 they moved to Plummer.

Her husband died in 1994.

Mrs. Baker was a member of the Rebekah Lodge, American Legion Auxiliary, the 8 and 40 Club and the Plummer Boosters.

Mrs. Baker is survived by a son, Harry Baker of Plummer; two daughters, Diane Crum of Coulee Dam and Patricia Patterson of Plummer; a brother, Harry “Bud” Block of Palouse, Wash.; two sisters, Betty Aranjo of Lebanon, Tenn., and Almira “Midge” Collins of Yakima; and four grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association or the American Cancer Society.

Theodore ‘Ted’ Keller Coeur d’Alene

Visitation for Theodore “Ted” Keller, 92, will be Thursday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the English Funeral Chapel in Coeur d’Alene. Service will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at the funeral chapel in Coeur d’Alene. Burial will follow at the Forest Cemetery, Riverview Section.

Mr. Keller, who was born in North Dakota, died Sunday.

He moved to the Cataldo area in 1913 and to Coeur d’Alene in 1974.

He was a mail carrier for the Postal Service for 37 years, retiring in 1964.

Mr. Keller was a member of the Eagles Lodge, Rural Letter Carrier Association and the Yellowstone Highway Grange.

Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Dorothy; two daughters, Margie Gallina of Maryland and Penny Neely of Coeur d’Alene; a brother, Paul Keller of Montana; 16 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.

Noel E. Ricard Coeur d’Alene

Funeral Mass for Noel E. Ricard, 68, will be at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at St. Pius Catholic Church in Coeur d’Alene. Burial will follow at St. Thomas Cemetery in Coeur d’Alene. Yates Funeral Home in Coeur d’Alene is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Ricard, who was born in Alberta, died Saturday.

He moved to the Yakima Valley in 1947 and had worked at Wagner Chevrolet and also owned a service station. He later owned bars in Mabton and Moses Lake, Wash., for 13 years, before moving to Coeur d’Alene in 1977.

Mr. Ricard had owned the Resthaven Trailer Court in Hayden, Idaho, for several years and worked at Transtector Systems in Hayden Lake, Idaho, for 10 years. He retired in 1995.

He was a member of St. Pius Catholic Church and the Coeur d’Alene Eagles Aerie.

Survivors include his wife, Ann; three sons, Leo Ricard of Federal Way, Wash., Robert Ricard of Devils Lake, N.D., and David Ricard of Hayden; three daughters, Bonnie Cerrillo of Yakima, Linda Abson of British Columbia and Angela Ricard of California; four brothers, Emil Ricard of Alberta, Camille Richard of British Columbia, Raymond Ricard of Yakima and Larry Ricard of Chinook, Wash.; three sisters, Alba Bourbonnaise of Alberta, Theresa Williams of Coeur d’Alene and Aline Pare of British Columbia; 10 grandchildren and two-great-grandchildren.

Benton ‘Dean’ Wolfinger Osburn, Idaho

At his request, no service will be held for Benton “Dean” Wolfinger, 67. An open house for family and friends will be held on Saturday from 1 to 4 p.m. at the family home, 1137 Garden Ave., in Osburn. Shoshone Funeral Service is in charge of cremation arrangements.

Mr. Wolfinger died Saturday from cancer.

He grew up and attended school in Polson, Mont., before serving in the Army during World War II.

Mr. Wolfinger settled in the Silver Valley after his military service and worked for Osburn Fuel and Garbage, and later Runge Furniture in Wallace. He then worked for Propane by Lane in Kellogg as the North Idaho/Western Montana truck driver.

He later worked at Stovern Supply, retiring in 1995.

Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Alice; two sons, Ben Wolfinger of Coeur d’Alene and Mike Wolfinger of San Diego; two daughters, Diane Longley of Wallace and Sally Anderson of Coeur d’Alene; a sister, Irma Doney of Osburn; and five grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Loving Care and More or the Osburn Community Baptist Church.

Berdean Olson Spokane

Memorial service for Berdean (Pogue) Olson, 89, will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Loon Lake (Wash.) Congregational Church. Schanzenbach Funeral Home in Chewelah, Wash., is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Olson, who was born in Bertrand, Neb., died Saturday.

She had lived in Spokane for 56 years and was a homemaker.

Mrs. Olson was a member of the Knox Presbyterian Church and Loon Lake Congregational Church.

Survivors include her husband of 70 years, Kenneth Olson; a son, Jack Olson of Coeur d’Alene; two daughters, Mae Louise Page of Philadelphia, Pa., Joanne Beaufait of Loon Lake; eight grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Loon Lake Congregational Church.

Raymond Critchfield Coeur d’Alene

Service for Raymond E. Critchfield, 72, will be held later. Yates Funeral Home in Coeur d’Alene is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Critchfield, who was born in Akron, Ohio, died Friday.

He served in the Army during World War II in the South Pacific.

In 1981 Mr. Critchfield moved to Coeur d’Alene and worked as a custodian at Lakes Middle School until his retirement.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy; three daughters, Mary Lou Critchfield of Ohio, Betty Jo Critchfield of Alberta and Vicki Critchfield of Moyie Springs, Idaho; three brothers, Reuben Critchfield of Minnesota, and Harry and Lewis Critchfield, both of Florida; and four grandchildren.

Myrtle Page Gold Hill, Ore.

Graveside service for Myrtle Josephine Louise (Hutchins) Page, 85, was Tuesday at the Evergreen Cemetery in Priest River, Idaho.

Mrs. Page, who was born in Sundance, Wyo., died Thursday.

She married Joseph Frank in 1931. He died in 1958.

In 1959 she married Henry Page, and in 1964 they moved to Priest River from Wyoming, where they had operated a cafe for several years. Mr. Page died in 1990.

Mrs. Page moved to Gold Hill from Priest River in 1990.

Survivors include six daughters, Marlene Popham of Basin, Wyo., Josie Ewing of Spearfish, S.D., Judy Aberle of Colstrip, Mont., Karroll Brown of Buffalo, Wyo., Maurine Knapp of Gold Hill and Robyn Moug of Deer Park; 15 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Terry Dea Spokane

Memorial service for Terry D. Dea, 57, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Sunset Chapel at the Fairmount Memorial Park. Heritage Funeral home is in charge of cremation.

Mr. Dea, who was a lifetime Spokane resident, died Sunday.

He worked for several years as an executive in the beauty supply industry and was a member of the Eagles Lodge No. 2.

Survivors include his father, Ivan Dea of Post Falls; his mother Lucile Aichlmayr of Spokane; a son, Thomas Dea, and a daughter, Kirsten Dea, both of Spokane; four sisters, Sharon Kaliko of Wahiawa, Hawaii, and Susan Tunison, Wendy Westby and Pamela Jennings, all of Spokane; a stepsister, Carolyn Umland of Idaho; and a granddaughter.

David Ford Coeur d’Alene

Memorial service for David A. Ford, 32, will be today at 2 p.m. at the Grace Bible Church in Hayden Lake, Idaho. English Funeral Chapel in Coeur d’Alene is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Ford, who was born in California, died last Wednesday.

He moved to North Idaho 15 years ago and had worked as a carpenter.

Survivors include his wife, Vickie; two daughters, Heather Jones of Post Falls and Sarah Ford of Arizona; two stepsons, Joshua and Jacob Montgomery; a stepdaughter, Alisha Montgomery; a brother, James Ford of Spokane; and grandparents, Viola Ford, and Francis and George Scharper, all of California.

Ione Heck Spokane

Service for Ione M. Heck, 77, will be today at 2 p.m. at the Yates Funeral Home in Coeur d’Alene. Burial will follow at St. Thomas Cemetery in Coeur d’Alene.

Ms. Heck, who was born in North Dakota, died Friday.

She grew up in the Blue Creek area and graduated from Coeur d’Alene High School, later moving to Othello, Wash.

Ms. Heck moved to Spokane during the 1950s and was a member of the Spokane Christian Center.

Survivors include two sons, Darrell Sims of Post Falls and Larry Sims of Hayden Lake, Idaho; two brothers, Roymane Knutson of Lacrosse, Wash., and Charles Knutson of Valley, Wash.; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Eric ‘Woody’ Smith Hayden, Idaho

Visitation for Eric “Woody” Smith, 11, will be today from 1-6 p.m. and Thursday from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Coeur d’Alene Memorial Funeral Home. Service will be Thursday at 4 p.m. at the funeral home with burial to follow at Coeur d’Alene Memorial Gardens.

Woody, who was born in Coeur d’Alene, died Sunday at home.

He attended Hayden Elementary School.

Survivors include his parents, Tim and Kari Smith; a sister, Sydney, at home; his grandparents, Virginia Smith, and Ted and Jackie Herriott, all of Coeur d’Alene; and greatgrandmother, Eunice Willbanks of Hayden.

Michael Whitford Usk, Wash.

Service for Michael E. “Mikey” Whitford, 40, will be at 10 a.m. today at the Kalispel Tribal Community Hall in Usk. Inurnment will be held at a later date. Sherman-Knapp Funeral Home in Newport, Wash., is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Whitford, who was born in Riverside, Calif., died Saturday.

He had lived in Usk for the past 17 years and was a member of the Blackfeet Tribe of Indians.

Mr. Whitford worked for the Kalispel Reservation buffalo herd as a field hand. He was a firefighter with the Bureau of Indian Affairs and had worked as a mechanic for the Kalispel Tribe of Indians.

Survivors include his companion of nine years, Sylvia Meschell-Whitford of Usk; three sons, Lyle and Niki Whitford at home, and Michael Whitford of Toppenish, Wash.; a daughter, Anitra of Toppenish; his mother, Leah Whitford of Arapahoe, Wyo.; and two sisters, Brandy of Lander, Wyo., and Donna of Port Orchard, Wash.

Maria Sepp Pasco

Service for Maria Sepp, 102, was Monday at the Pines Cemetery Mausoleum.

Mrs. Sepp, who was born in Russia, died Thursday.

She was a 30-year Spokane resident and a homemaker. She moved to Pasco 23 years ago.

Survivors include a daughter, Edna Herres of Kennewick; seven grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.

Eva Boehm Spokane

Funeral Mass for Eva B. Boehm, 74, is planned for 1 p.m. today at the Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home. Burial will be at the Holy Cross Cemetery.

Mrs. Boehm, who was born in North Dakota, died Sunday.

She and her husband, Fred, built and operated the Lilac Lanes bowling alley from 1957 to 1971. She was also a homemaker.

Her husband died in 1981.

Mrs. Boehm is survived by two sons, Curtis and Melvin Boehm, both of Spokane; a daughter, Doreen Boehm of California; and two brothers, Jack Stroh of Spokane and Bill Stroh of Germany.
