Gu Alumni Association Presents Scholarships

Several Inland Northwest students received scholarships from the Gonzaga University Alumni Association.

The students, listed by their hometowns, are:

Cheney: Angela Liedkie.

Greenacres: Jacqueline Brown.

Post Falls: Cheryl Moralez.

Spokane: Theresa Feulner, a Harry Leppek Scholar; Matt Watkins, Susan Ganley, Karen Walker, Claudia Felice and Rachel Quinn.

Veradale: Kristen Busko.

Ben Roccanova, a Cheney High School senior, has been named to the Western Washington University Honors Program, which enrolls 50 freshmen each year.

Matt Staples, a freshman premedical student at Washington State University, was named to the President’s Honor Roll for fall semester and elected to the WSU Chapter of Phi Eta Sigma, an honor society for freshman.

Staples earned a perfect 4.0 grade-point average while taking 15 credit hours. He is the grandson of Lyle and Maxine Kerns of Spokane.

Melodie Close earned the certified medical assistant credential by passing the American Association of Medical Assistants’ certification examination. She is a graduate of Spokane Community College.

Two Spokane students graduated from Portland State University following the fall semester: Michael Hilts, with a master of business administration; and Christopher Yucho, with a bachelor of arts.

Aubrey Bruneau, a student at Shadle Park High School, was one of 54 finalists competing in the American Legion National High School Oratorical Contest in Indianapolis, Ind. Contestants had to advance past local, district and state-level competitions.

Reverie Mott, Spokane, received the Class Honor from the School of Music at the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor during graduation ceremonies in March.

The Ferris High School Orchestra won the fourth-place trophy at the Northwest Invitational Orchestra Festival in Gresham, Ore., which featured more than 100 entrants.

Holli Schuler, daughter of John and Joleen Schuler of Deer Park, received the $600 Brooke-Fisher Knapp P.E.O. Senior Girl Scholarship.

Amy Ogden was chosen as first alternative, and Amy Olsen as second alternative.
