Norway Wants Israeli Deposed In ‘73 Killing

Compiled From Wire Services

Almost a quarter-century after Israel’s Mossad intelligence agency killed the wrong man in a botched assassination attempt, Norway has asked Israel to interrogate a key suspect in the attack.

On July 21, 1973, gunmen in Lillehammer shot an innocent Moroccan waiter, Ahmed Bouchikhi, as he returned from the movies with his pregnant Norwegian wife.

The agents apparently mistook Bouchikhi for Hassan Salameh, a PLO intelligence chief suspected of masterminding the killing of 11 Israeli athletes at the 1972 Munich Olympics.

Five men identified as Mossad agents served brief prison terms in connection with the shooting and were then pardoned.

Norwegian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ingvard Havnen confirmed Monday that Oslo had asked Israel to depose Mike Harari, an ex-Mossad operative long suspected of leading the Lillehammer team.
