Man Dies After Snowmobile Gets Stuck

A 67-year-old Lakeview, Idaho, man was found dead in the snow near the south end of Lake Pend Oreille on Thursday, according to the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Department.

Richard Bolen was found about one mile north of his snowmobile on a road leading to his home.

Bolen’s snowmobile got stuck about six miles from the Bunco Road trailhead. He apparently tried to build a fire, but then began walking toward his home - a distance of more than 10 miles. He tried to build a snow shelter about 1-1/2 miles from his snowmobile, turned around and died on his way back, deputies said.
