Leaf’s Rose Bowl Td Football Put Up For Auction

The conclusion of the Rose Bowl was a decidedly unsatisfactory one for Washington State University football fans. But whatever the outcome, after 67 years just being there was accomplishment enough.

Now, Cougar fans have the opportunity to own a piece of history: the football thrown for the first Cougar touchdown of the game, signed by quarterback Ryan Leaf and coach Mike Price.

This one-of-a-kind ball can’t be found in any sports store on the planet.

The donated ball will be auctioned off by the Spokane Valley Church of the Nazarene to raise funds for the various local charities supported by the Women’s Ministries group, including Anna Ogden Hall.

The auction will take place on Feb. 21 at Broadway Elementary, 11016 E. Broadway.

Other items up for bid include Seattle Sonics jackets and jerseys, United Airlines tickets that can be used for any destination in the United States, a vacation in Hawaii, golf packages, and a large variety of special dinners, services and gift certificates.

The doors will open at 4 p.m. for viewing of auction items. A spaghetti dinner will be served from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. A silent auction will run from 5 to 6:30 p.m. and the live auction will begin at 6:45.

The cost of the dinner is $2 per person or $8 per family. There is no charge to attend only the auction.

For more information, call the church office at 926-1545.

A variety of ‘Heartbeats’

Opportunity Free Methodist Church, 1313 S. Pines Road, will host a musical variety show called “Heartbeats In Time II” at 7 p.m on Friday. Church members will perform during the show.

The cost is $1 per person at the door and refreshments will be served.

For more information, call the church office at 926-2673.

Bunco party at Good Shepherd

Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 810 S. Sullivan Road, will host a family bunco party at 7 p.m. today. Bunco is a dice game that people of all ages can play.

The evening is free, but those attending are asked to bring snacks to share with others.
