Six-Week Road Project Begins Thursday

A project to improve state Highway 53 from Rathdrum to U.S. Highway 95 will begin Thursday and create traffic interference for the next six weeks, the Idaho Department of Transportation announced Tuesday.

Work on the project will include shoulder grading, a new guardrail and repaving on nearly six miles of Highway 53.

A seal coat will be applied to prolong the life of the roadway about two weeks after the road is resurfaced.

Traffic will be reduced to one lane during paving and sealing. Contractor crews will work Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. to lessen the impact to motorists during the morning and evening commute, the ITD stated.

Flaggers and a pilot car will guide traffic through the work zone.

The contractor for this $550,000 project is Interstate Concrete and Asphalt of Coeur d’Alene. Work should be completed by mid-July.
