Cookie Crumbles In Favor Of Danish Bakers

Associated Press

Danish butter cookie makers can breathe easier.

By a 2-1 vote, the U.S. International Trade Commission ruled Friday that Danish butter cookie markers were not dumping their products, contained in colorful tin cans, in U.S. stores at subsidized prices.

“There is not a reasonable indication that an industry in the United States is materially injured or threatened with material injury by imports of butter cookies from Denmark that are allegedly subsidized and sold in the United States at less than fair value,” the ruling said.

The case was brought by Hearthside Baking Co. Inc. of Chicago.

Major U.S. purchasers of butter cookies in tins include national and regional drug chains, discount stores, club stores, mass merchandisers and supermarket chains.
