Streetcar Enthusiast Calls Second Meeting

From Staff And Wire Reports

Trolley car enthusiast Richard Le Francis has scheduled a second meeting to share information and organize an effort to preserve Coeur d’Alene’s railroad tracks for a streetcar.

Le Francis is trying to save the tracks that run between North Idaho College and The Coeur d’Alene Resort Golf Course for the use of a historical trolley car. He and supporters of the idea have found a company in Edmonds, Wash., that restores and sells streetcars.

Finding a self-propelled streetcar to purchase may be the easy part of his plans. City officials need to be convinced of the idea’s worth, ownership and right-of-way issues need to be worked out, and money to purchase and maintain the car and tracks must be found.

Anyone interested in helping with the effort is encouraged to attend the meeting, scheduled for 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the Harding Family Center, 411 N. 15th St., Coeur d’Alene. , DataTimes
