Explosion At Ineel Forces Evacuation

From Staff

An air compressor explosion has occurred in a building at the Idaho National Engineering and Environmental Laboratory, causing an evacuation for a short time.

The compressor exploded on Wednesday in a ground-level building at the Waste Experimental Reduction Facility . The blast damaged the room and filled it with smoke, but no fire was reported.

One employee was in the room and received some oil on his clothing. He showed no signs of injury.

The Waste Experimental Reduction Facility is used to reduce the volume and increase the stability of low-level radioactive waste, as well as treating toxic and mixed wastes. No radioactive material was involved.
