Three Recruits Commit To Play With Cougars

All three men’s basketball players who orally committed to Washington State this fall have signed national letters of intent to play for the Cougars next year, WSU coach Kevin Eastman said.

The Cougars signed guard David Adams from Tacoma’s Lincoln High School, center/forward Bryan Whitehead from Mount Vernon, Wash., and point guard Marquis Poole from Centennial High School in Compton, Calif.

“Our goal was to try to sign three players during the early period and hold the remaining spots,” said Eastman. “We’re very pleased in that we got some good quickness, more athletic ability and very skilled shooters in this year’s class.”

Whitehead, at 6 feet, 9 inches and 220 pounds, was an Associated Press AAA All-State pick as a junior.

Adams (6-2, 185) averaged 19.4 points and 6.0 rebounds per game in leading Lincoln High to a 19-6 record last season.

Poole averaged 20 points, eight assists, and five rebounds per game for Centennial High.

Washington State University’s women’s team ended the fall season on an upbeat, finishing fourth among 15 teams in the San Diego Fall Classic at Santee, Calif.

Stefanie Coleman, a senior from Tacoma, led the Cougars by placing sixth with a 54-hole total of 233.
