Daniel Lautenslager St. John, Wash.
Visitation for Daniel Lautenslager, 83, will be from 9 to 11 a.m. today at Bruning Funeral Home in Colfax, Wash. Graveside service will follow at 1 p.m. at the St. John Cemetery.
Mr. Lautenslager, 83, died Saturday.
He was born in Endicott, Wash., and lived most of his life in the St. John area.
In 1939 he married Helen Bafus.
In 1943 he and his brother, John, operated an automotive repair business. They later sold the original concrete building and purchased a garage, where they continued the business. Mr. Lautenslager and his brother operated a Ford dealership and later obtained a Dodge dealership.
In 1952 he sold his share of the business to his brother and began farming. He began working with Howard Hollingsworth in 1956 on a per-acre basis before purchasing the land.
Mr. Lautenslager was a member of the Lutheran church, the Colfax Eagles Lodge and the Wheatland Grange.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Jerry Lautenslager of St. John and Lanny Lautenslager of Washtucna, Wash.; a daughter, Shirley Morrison of Burbank, Wash.; a brother, Wally Lautenslager of St. John; two sisters, Phoebe DePew of Spokane and Mary Okrzesa of Spangle, Wash.; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Joyce Nelson Spokane
Service for Joyce E. Nelson, 72, will be at 1 p.m. today in Sunset Chapel at Fairmount Memorial Park. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South is in charge of arrangements.
A 57-year Spokane resident, Mrs. Nelson died Saturday. She was born in Maryville, Tenn.
She worked as a grocery clerk at the Gold Coin Market for more than 20 years. She later worked at the Ranch Market and retired in late 1970s.
Her husband, Richard Nelson, preceded her in death.
Survivors include a son, Robert King of Spokane; four daughters, Diane Gardner, Donna Sheposh and Diane Marsh, all of Spokane, and Terry Shepard of Spirit Lake, Idaho; three brothers, Tom and Doug Madison, both of Spokane, and Jack Madison of Port Angeles, Wash.; a sister, June Williams of Spokane; 15 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.

Lorna Clough Chewelah, Wash.
Memorial service for Lorna (Major) Clough, 63, will be at 3 p.m. today at Chewelah United Church of Christ. A gathering will follow at the family home. Danekas Funeral Chapel in Colville, Wash., is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Clough, who was born in Hunters, Wash., died Saturday.
She graduated from West Valley High School in 1954.
In 1956 she married Robert Clough. They moved to Poquoson, Va., where they lived for 21 years. Mrs. Clough worked as a claims adjuster for Crawford and Co.
In 1966 they moved to Chewelah. She was a member of the Peninsula Association of Insurance Women.
Survivors include her husband; two sons, Jeffery Clough of Hayden Lake, Idaho, and Michael Clough of Santiago, Chile; a daughter, Michele Clark of Wayne, W.Va.; her mother, Pearl Major of Clayton, Wash.; five brothers, Stan Major of Chewelah, Gordon and Tom Major, both of Clayton, Gary Major of Phoenix and Terry Major of Blodgett Mills, N.Y.; a sister, Lori Major of Spokane; and four grandchildren.

Marlene (Nilsson) Rogers Colbert
Service for Marlene (Nilsson) Rogers, 62, is planned for 1 p.m. Thursday at Covenant United Methodist Church. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Born in Tekoa, Wash., Mrs. Rogers died Sunday.
She graduated from Whitworth College in 1989 with a bachelor’s degree in education and drama. Mrs. Rogers was a teacher at Orchard Prairie School.
She was a member of Covenant United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her husband of 45 years, Ronald; two sons, Stephen and David Rogers, both of Spokane; a daughter, Kathleen MacDonald of Olympia; a brother, Neil Nilsson of Olympia; and five grandchildren.

Henry Engelhardt Addy, Wash.
Graveside service for Henry C. Engelhardt, 88, will be at 2 p.m. today at Cedonia (Wash.) Community Cemetery. Schanzenbach Funeral Home in Chewelah, Wash., is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Engelhardt, who was born in Cedonia, died Friday.
He served in the Army during World War II and later farmed in the Cedonia area.
Survivors include three brothers, Louie Engelhardt of Deer Park, Roy Engelhardt of Soap Lake, Wash., and Vic Engelhardt of Wilbur, Wash.; and two sisters, Dorothy Nokes of Spokane and Alice Cooper of Addy.

Frances Faraca Kline Coeur d’Alene
Memorial service for Frances E. Faraca Kline, 78, will be at 2 p.m. today at Yates Funeral Home in Coeur d’Alene.
Mrs. Faraca Kline, who was born in Bowdle, S.D., died Sunday.
She grew up and was educated in Baker, Mont., and then moved to Kellogg, Idaho. In 1939 she married Emil Faraca.
They settled in Spokane in 1956 before moving to Coeur d’Alene in 1966, where they owned the Steinhause Tavern.
Mrs. Faraca Kline sold the business after her husband died in 1971.
In 1975 she married Clarence Kline and moved to Harlem, Mont. She later moved to Post Falls. Clarence died in 1995 and she moved to Coeur d’Alene.
She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Coeur d’Alene, the Eagles Auxiliary and the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary.
Survivors include four sons, Richard Faraca of Tacoma, Larry Faraca of Spokane, and John and Don Faraca, both of Federal Way, Wash.; a daughter, Jean Hibbs of Olalla, Wash.; a brother, John Schlecht of Poulsbo, Wash.; seven grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Christopher Pachosa Spokane

A lifetime Spokane resident, Mr. Pachosa died Saturday from injuries suffered in a car accident near Sprague, Wash.
He graduated from Central Valley High School.
He served in the Army for six years. He was stationed in Korea for one year and then at Fort Lewis with the military police as a corrections officer.
He was currently serving with the Army National Guard and working in food processing at Olympic Foods.
Mr. Pachosa was a member of the Colville Confederated Tribes.
Survivors include his fiancee, Mandy Portwood of Spokane; two sons, Adam and Brandon Pachosa of Kewa, Wash.; his parents, Jack and Jeanne Pachosa of Spokane; a brother, Nathan Pachosa of Spokane; and his grandparents, Carolyn Pachosa of Grand Coulee, Wash., and Alvin and Jeanne Toulour of Inchelium, Wash.
Edna (Wilson) Frazier Spokane
Vigil service for Edna Violet (Wilson) Frazier, 92, will be at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at St. Aloysius Roman Catholic Church. Funeral Mass will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the church. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Frazier, who died Friday, was born in Boise.
She moved to Moscow, Idaho, for her last two years of high school and, in 1931, graduated from the University of Idaho.
She met William Frazier at a church party on St. Patrick’s Day in 1924. They were married in 1933.
A homemaker and seamstress, Mrs. Frazier lived in Spokane for more than 45 years.
She was a member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church.
Survivors include her husband; two sisters, Esther Caldwell and Virginia Cornelius; three brothers, Lorne, Walter and Ralph Wilson; three grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Shirley (Hanson) Allen Spokane
Service for Shirley D. (Hanson) Allen, 67, will be at 1 p.m. today at Thornhill Valley Funeral Home. Burial will be at Pines Cemetery.
Mrs. Allen, who died Sunday, was born in Parshall, N.D.
She was a 43-year Spokane resident and worked as a computer technician for Hewlett Packard. She retired in 1992.
Her companion, Warren Puckett, died in 1995.
Survivors include a son, Jerry Moldenhauer of Otis Orchards; two daughters, Cheryl Peters of Rosalia, Wash., and Linda Bowen of Spangle, Wash.; three brothers, Richard, Orville and Dennis Hanson; two sisters, Berniece Kruger and Nyla Lakaduk; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Barbara Peterson Spokane
Visitation for Barbara L. Peterson will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Riplinger Funeral Home. Service is planned for 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Peterson, 65, died Sunday.
She was born in St. Louis. Her family moved to Spokane when she was an infant.
Mrs. Peterson worked as an accountant.
She was a member of the American Business Women’s Association, the Hosta Society and was a board member of North Idaho Junior College.
Survivors include her husband of 27 years, Rodney; three sons, Randy, Russ and Rob Peterson; two daughters, Barbara Banks-Mattox and Cheryln Ingalls; her mother, Rae Peterson; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Erma (Nett) Shepler Chewelah, Wash.
Memorial service for Erma G. (Nett) Shepler, 79, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Schanzenbach Funeral Home in Chewelah.
Mrs. Shepler died Sunday.
She was born in Chewelah and graduated from Jenkins High School.
In 1942 she married Vernell Shepler. They moved to Coulee Dam, Wash., in 1948, where she worked in the Post Office and at a credit union. They returned to Chewelah 27 years ago.
Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Robin Dunham of Almira, Wash.; a brother, Karl Nett of Spokane; and two grandchildren.
Gertrude (Anderson) Barigar Spokane
No service will be held for Gertrude E. (Anderson) Barigar, 77, at her request. The Cremation Society of Washington is in charge of arrangements.
A 10-year Spokane resident, Mrs. Barigar died Thursday. She was born in Sunnyside, Wash.
She graduated from high school in 1942. Mrs. Barigar was a homemaker.
Her husband, Floyd Barigar, preceded her in death.
Survivors include two daughters, Kathryn Gilstrap and Susan Durkin, both of Spokane; a brother, Paul Anderson of Tacoma; and a grandson.

Laverne Butler Spokane

Mrs. Butler, who was born in Cornelius, Ore., died Oct. 24.
She was a homemaker and moved to Spokane in 1989.
Her husband of 40 years, Frank, died in 1975.
Survivors include two daughters, Rose Ash of Winston, Ore., and Faye Leonard of Ten Mile, Ore.; a son, Eldon Butler of Puyallup, Wash.; six grandchildren and 12 greatgrandchildren.

Gilbert Johnson Spokane
Memorial service for Gilbert A. Johnson, 77, was Tuesday at Heritage Funeral Home.
Mr. Johnson, who was born in Hanna, Alberta, died Sunday.
He graduated from North Central High School in 1940.
Mr. Johnson served in the U.S. Army and transferred to the Canadian Army during World War II.
In 1975 he married Betty Northway.
Mr. Johnson worked as a warehouse foreman at the Grant Co. in Spokane.
He was a member of the Spokane Valley Eagles Lodge.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Kimberly Johnson and Sharon Duer, both of Spokane; a brother, Alan Johnson of Yakima; a sister, Agnes Swanson of Spokane; and three grandchildren.
Ida (Campbell) Evans Spokane
Memorial service for Ida Jane (Campbell) Evans, 84, is planned for 11 a.m. Friday at Thornhill Valley Funeral Home.
Mrs. Evans died Oct. 27. She was born in Madras, Ore.
In 1940 she married Robert Evans. They lived in the Palouse, Wash., area, and in Potlatch, Idaho, Coeur d’Alene and Spokane.
A 40-year Spokane resident, Mrs. Evans worked in the dry cleaning industry.
They spent winter months in Earp, Calif., and Lake Havasu City, Ariz.
Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Ginger Brooke of Spokane; a son, Jerry Harrah of Dublin, Calif.; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Vesta Metsker Coeur d’Alene
Visitation for Vesta A. Metsker, 82, will be from 1 to 4 p.m. today and from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at Yates Funeral Home, Hayden Chapel. Service is planned for 1 p.m. Thursday at the Hayden Chapel with a reception to follow.
Born in Prosser, Wash., Mrs. Metsker died Saturday.
She moved to Hayden Lake in 1919. She graduated from Coeur d’Alene High School and MiLady’s Beauty School in Boise.
Mrs. Metsker opened Vesta’s, one of the first beauty shops in Hayden Lake, Idaho, and later worked at Laura’s Beauty Shop in Wallace, Idaho.
In 1942 she married Walt Metsker. They lived in Boise and Kellogg before buying the Spirit Lake Apartments, which they owned for 18 years.
Mrs. Metsker moved to Lower Twin Lakes near Rathdrum, Idaho, in 1972. She spent winters in Garibaldi, Ore., until her husband died in 1991. She then moved to Coeur d’Alene.
She was active in community service and served as the president of the Spirit Lake Community Club, and was chairperson for the American Cancer Society which she volunteered with for 20 years.
Survivors include three daughters, Carole Wilhelm and Lynda Schultz, both of Spokane, and Donna McDonough of Clackamas, Ore.; two brothers, Henry Buhrmester of Coeur d’Alene and Paul Buhrmester of Washougal, Wash.; a sister, Eleanor Kirby of Coeur d’Alene; five grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

Hermania `Betty’ (Martinez) Mirabal Ione, Wash.
Graveside service for Hermania “Betty” (Martinez) Mirabal, 79, will be held at a later date. Sherman-Knapp Funeral Home in Newport, Wash., is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Mirabal, who died Sunday, was born in Elvado, N.M.
She married Clifford Mirabal in 1942.
She was a homemaker and moved to Ione in 1975.
Her husband died in 1987.
Survivors include two sons, Felipe and Roberto Mirabal; two brothers, John and Sonny Martinez; a sister, Mary Martinez; four grandchildren and one great-grandson.
Elsie Benn Seattle
No service will be held for Elsie M. Benn, 91. Bleitz Funeral Home in Bellevue, Wash., is in charge of arrangements.
Miss Benn, who was born in Curlew, Wash., died Oct. 12.
She worked in the payroll office at Lakeland Village for 25 years.
Miss Benn moved to Seattle in 1992.
She was a member of the Retired Public Employees Council.
Survivors include a daughter, Vickie Renner of Kirkland, Wash.; a son, Tom Benn of Bremerton; and two grandchildren.
Donald Carpenter Edmonds, Wash.
Private memorial service for Donald H. Carpenter, 82, will be held at a later date. Beck’s Funeral Home in Edmonds in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Carpenter, a former Spokane resident, died Saturday. He was born in Galesburg, N.D.
He began working as an operator for Burlington Northern at the age of 18. He later became the chief dispatcher in Spokane. He retired in 1977 as head of the rules and safety department.
Mr. Carpenter moved to Edmonds in 1997.
His wife of 56 years, Betty, died in 1997.
Survivors include a daughter, Sue Hart of Edmonds; a sister, Mardell Sievers of Bismarck, N.D.; and five grandchildren.
