Ncaa Tournament Will Include Ewu

Pamela Parks will be going out in style.

In her final season as coach of Eastern Washington, the Eagles received a second straight at-large berth into the 64-team NCAA Volleyball Tournament.

Eastern (24-7) will play sixth-ranked UCLA (25-3) Saturday night at Pauley Pavilion in Los Angeles.

The Eagles are a 14th seed in the Central Region bracket, while the Bruins are seeded third.

UCLA and Eastern will square off 45 minutes after the match between Notre Dame (20-8) and Ohio State (16-11) slated to begin at 5 p.m.

“We’ll give it our best shot,” stated Parks. “I’m so happy for our team that we can play one more week.”

This year the Big Sky Conference will have three teams in the tournament for the first time. Northern Arizona (19-9) earned the conference’s automatic berth by winning the Big Sky tournament championship. Sacramento State (22-9) was also picked as an at-large team.

“It’s thrilling for the conference,” said Parks. “It shows how good our teams have become. It was a dogfight all year.”

Parks has a 310-269 record in 18 seasons as the Eagles head coach. This will be Eastern’s third appearance in the NCAA Tournament.
