Charles Sheldon Pullman
Memorial service for Charles H. Sheldon, 70, will be at 3 p.m. today at Simpson United Methodist Church in Pullman. Kimball Funeral Home in Pullman is in charge of arrangements.
Born in Jerome, Idaho, Mr. Sheldon died Thursday.
He graduated from the University of Washington in 1953 and received a master’s degree in 1957.
Mr. Sheldon served in the Army’s Special Services in Germany for three years.
He earned a doctorate in 1965 from the University of Oregon.
Mr. Sheldon taught political science at the University of Oregon, Boise State University and Southampton College. He also taught at the University of Nevada, where he was chairman of the department and director of the school of social studies.
He moved to Pullman in 1970 and was a professor at Washington State University. He served as director of the division of governmental studies and services. He was later the department chairman.
In 1988 he was named Washington State University Centennial Scholar. In 1994, the College of Liberal Arts named him the first Claudis O. and Mary W. Johnson Distinguished Professor of Political Science.
He served with the Washington State Commission on Minorities and Justice and as a consultant to the Advisory Committee on Civil Justice Reform of the U.S. District Court for Eastern Washington.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia; three sons, Christopher Sheldon of Olympia, and Ross Winters and Thomas Sheldon, both of Seattle; a daughter, Lee Ann Winters of Spokane; a brother, A.K. Sheldon of Post Falls; and seven grandchildren.

Sandra Potts Rathdrum, Idaho
Funeral Mass for Sandra L. Potts, 53, will be at 10 a.m. today at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Spokane. Burial will follow at Pinecrest Cemetery in Sandpoint. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Born in Trout Creek, Mont., Mrs. Potts died Thursday.
She worked as a nurses’ assistant.
She moved to Rathdrum in 1979.
Survivors include her husband, Jerry; a son, Leon Tabor of Spokane; a daughter, Lisa Stratin of Ridgefield, Wash.; five stepchildren, Shawn Potts of Spokane, Paul Potts of Cheney, Jeri Rae of Connell, Wash., Chole Rivera of Ridgefield and Laura Centers of Rathdrum; her father, George Prishmont, and a brother, Jim Prishmont, both of Spokane; a sister, Barbara Reeser of Thompson Falls, Mont.; two grandchildren and 13 step-grandchildren.

Bradley Bergman Spokane
Graveside service for Bradley A. Bergman, 81, will be at 1 p.m. today at Mount Nebo Cemetery. Memorial service will follow at 6:15 p.m. at Temple Beth Shalom. Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
A lifetime Spokane resident, Mr. Bergman died Sunday.
He served in the Navy during World War II.
Mr. Bergman worked as a pharmacist.
He was past president in the Temple Emanuel, the Men’s Club and Temple Beth Shalom. He was also a member of the Washington State Pharmaceutical Association.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Audrey; a son, Jeffrey Bergman of Spokane; a daughter, Carol Strassman, and a brother, Stanley Bergman, both of Seattle; and four grandchildren.

Barbara Johnson Spokane
Memorial service for Barbara L. Johnson, 45, will be at noon today at Fairmount Memorial Park Chapel. Burial will be in Warren, Pa. Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Miss Johnson, who died Sept. 6, was born in Warren.
She was a 10-year Spokane resident and worked as a nurse practitioner at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Spokane.
Survivors include her parents, Allen and Lucille Johnson; a brother, Glen Johnson; and a sister, Nancy Keene.

Ena Olsen Spokane
Service for Ena W. Olsen, 76, was Monday at Riplinger Funeral Home. Private burial will be today at Valley View Memorial Park in Soap Lake, Wash.
A 67-year Spokane resident, Mrs. Olsen died Thursday. She was born in St. Andrews, Wash.
She married Wallace Cobb in 1944 after graduating from nurses’ training. He died in 1953.
In 1959 she married Robert Olsen. He died in 1992.
Mrs. Olsen was a registered nurse at Deaconess and Holy Family hospitals. She was involved with the start of the Home Health Care Program for Northwest Washington, based in Chewelah, Wash.
After retiring she volunteered at Corbin Senior Center.
Survivors include four children, Judie, Greg, Mark and Janis; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Geraldine (Hatch) Porter Chester, Mont.
Graveside service for Geraldine Rae “Geri” (Hatch) Porter, 82, will be at 3 p.m. today at Fairmount Memorial Park. Rockman Funeral Chapel in Chester is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Porter, who died Sunday, was born in Alpina, S.D.
She graduated from high school in 1935 in Highmore, S.D.
Her family moved to Harrison, Idaho, in 1936.
Shortly after marrying W. Lee Porter in 1938, they moved to the Spokane Valley.
Mrs. Porter worked at the Alcoa plant during World War II. She was also a homemaker and a foster parent for 17 children.
Mrs. Porter later worked at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home for a few years and retired in 1978.
In 1998 she moved to Chester.
She was a member of Carey Memorial Baptist Church and the Ancient Order of United Workmen Lodge.
Her husband died in 1994.
She is survived by two daughters, Laurel Styke of Chester and Lela Hess of Denton, Mont.; eight grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.

Edna (Black) Thomas Post Falls
Service for Edna May (Black) Thomas, 76, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at English Funeral Chapel in Post Falls. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Post Falls.
Mrs. Thomas, who died Saturday, was born in Utah .
She married John Black in 1940. He died in 1982.
In 1983 she married James Thomas. He preceded her in death in 1992.
Mrs. Thomas was a homemaker and longtime Post Falls area resident. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Post Falls. She also was a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary and the Royal Neighbors.
Survivors include a son, Merle Black of Post Falls; four daughters, Myrna St. Marie of Sparks, Nev., Linda Kappel of Everett, Judy Lear of Spokane and Caroline Reasor of Post Falls; a brother, Wilford“Bud” Jackson of Ogden, Utah; a sister, Norma Linder of Ogden; 14 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Dalene Moses Deer Park
Memorial service for Dalene H. Moses, 51, will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Chattaroy (Wash.) Community Church. The Cremation Society of Washington is in charge of arrangements.
An 18-year Deer Park resident, Mrs. Moses died Friday. She was born in Bellingham, where she graduated from high school in 1966.
Mrs. Moses was a homemaker and a member of Chattaroy Community Church.
Survivors include her husband of 31 years, Richard; three sons, Koby Moses of Spokane, Cade Moses of Deer Park and Gabe Moses of Elk; a brother, Carl Weston of Bellingham; three sisters, Charlene Carr and Margie Bakker, both of Bellingham, and Vivian Wilkinson of Ferndale, Wash.; and one grandchild.

Keith Hanson Spokane
Service for Keith C. Hanson, 51, is planned for 9 a.m. Thursday at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South.
A 20-year Spokane resident, Mr. Hanson died Friday. He was born in Menomonie, Wis.
Mr. Hanson served in the Air Force from 1965 until 1986. He graduated from Spokane Community College in 1991 with a degree in computer science.
He had owned Kompute since 1991.
Mr. Hanson was a member of the American Hot Rod Association and was also a Girl Scout leader.
Survivors include his wife of 32 years, Peggy; three daughters, Dorothea Hanson and Kathleen Grenier, both of Spokane, and Roberta Salisbury of Norcross, Ga.; his father, Donald Hanson of Fox Lake, Ill.; a brother, Roger Hanson of Franklin Park, Ill.; a sister, Jeanne Hanson of Little Canada, Minn.; and eight grandchildren.

Willard Rusk Longview, Texas
Memorial service for Willard David “Bill” Rusk will be at 4 p.m. Sunday at Millwood Presbyterian Church. Welch Funeral Home in Longview is in charge of arrangements. A reception will follow.
Mr. Rusk, who was born in Omak, Wash., died Aug. 30. He was 67.
He served in the Air Force during the Korean War. In 1955 he married Carol Siler.
Mr. Rusk received bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Whitworth College.
He worked as a secretary at the YMCA for 11 years before working as the student financial aid director at Whitworth College for 20 years.
In 1972 he ran for state representative.
In 1990 Mr. Rusk moved to Longview, where he worked as the financial aid director for LeTourneau University.
He was a member of the Spokane Club and Millwood Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include his wife; a brother, Harold Rusk of Hemet, Calif., and a sister, Mary Rusk of Tonasket, Wash.

Michael Shane Spokane
Funeral for Michael A. Shane, 54, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Shane, who was born in Lincoln, Calif., died Friday.
He served in the Air Force for a few years and moved to Spokane in 1970.
He was the director of imaging service at the Rockwood Clinic for 28 years.
Survivors include his wife of 29 years, Cynthia; a daughter, Heather Murray of Spokane; and his parents, Alfred and Betty Shane of Coeur d’Alene.

Tom Scott Cheney
Graveside memorial service for Tom E. Scott, 70, is planned for 10 a.m. Thursday at Spokane Memorial Gardens. Cheney Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
A 26-year Cheney resident, Mr. Scott died Sunday. He was born in Paulina, Iowa.
He served in the Air Force for 35 years.
Survivors include two sons, Ron and Jeffrey Oxford, both of New Hampshire; two brothers, Walter Scott of Tonasket, Wash. and John Scott of Atlanta; and a sister, Grace Kiesecker of Tonasket.
Jesse Burkett Wallace
Memorial service for Jesse Burkett, 65, will be at 4 p.m. Thursday at Burke Road Church of God in Wallace. Shoshone Funeral Service in Wallace is in charge of arrangements.
Born in Texas, Mr. Burkett died Saturday.
He lived in the Silver Valley for a short time during the 1950s and then settled in the Wallace area in the 1960s.
Mr. Burkett worked for Hecla Mining Co. for 24 years. He was a member of the Shoshone Golf Club and an associate member of the Burke Road Church of God.
He also maintained a part-time residence in Arizona.
Survivors include his wife, Evelyn “Evy”; a daughter, Rochelle Weetman of San Antonio; two stepsons, Dave Rogers of Eagle River, Alaska, and Tim Rogers of Walla Walla; his mother, Pearlie Burkett, and a brother, Larry Burkett, both of California; six grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
Helen Belknap Spokane
Memorial service for Helen E. Belknap, 89, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church. Inurnment will be Sunday at Troy (Mont.) City Cemetery. Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
A lifetime Spokane resident, Mrs. Belknap died Aug. 30. She graduated from Lewis and Clark High School.
In 1951 she married Earl Belknap.
Mrs. Belknap worked as a hostess and cashier in the hospitality industry. She also worked at Greenoughs Grocery.
She volunteered for Deaconess Medical Center and the American Cancer Society.
Mrs. Belknap was a member of the Women of Washington Water Power, Order of Eastern Star and the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was also a member of Manito Methodist Church.
Her husband died in 1976.
Survivors include a son, Clifford Laehn of Spokane; two daughters, Barbara Downs and Marti White, both of Spokane; seven grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Linda (Curtiss) Schwenk Chandler, Ariz.
Memorial service for Linda (Curtiss) Schwenk was Monday at Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home.
Mrs. Schwenk, 48, died Sept. 6. She was born in Spokane and graduated from Ferris High School.
In 1987 she moved to Chandler and worked as a customer service representative for Fry’s Food Store.
Survivors include her husband, Bud; a daughter, Traci Shimanek of Phoenix; two stepdaughters, Terry of Greenacres and Chris of Spokane; her stepmother, Laura Curtiss of Greenacres; two brothers, Bill Curtiss of Spokane and Tom Curtiss of Payson, Ariz.; a sister, Bonnie Faler of Phoenix; and seven grandchildren.
Willard McInnis Spokane
Memorial service for Willard L. McInnis will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Spokane Valley Grace Brethren Church. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. McInnis, who was born in Rice Lake, Wis., died Tuesday. He was 69.
His family moved to Priest River, Idaho, and then to Spokane, where he graduated from North Central High School.
Mr. McInnis served in the Navy during the Korean War.
In 1954 he married Arlene Kuta. Mr. McInnis worked as an electrician and rectifier operator for 38 years at Kaiser Aluminum in Mead.
His wife preceded him in death.
Survivors include three sons, Don and Mike McInnis, both of Spokane, and Brad McInnis of Twin Falls, Idaho; his parents, Howard and Dorothy McInnis; a brother, Marshall McInnis, and a sister, Maxine Hoffman, both of Spokane; and two grandsons.
