Another Accident Occurs At Dangerous Intersection Woman Injured When Semitruck Loaded With Tons Of Flour Strikes Car
FROM FOR THE RECORD (Friday, April 14, 2000): Correction Location wrong: The intersection of McGuire Road and Prairie Avenue is west of Post Falls. The location was incorrect in Thursday’s paper.
A notoriously dangerous intersection east of Post Falls was the site of another accident Wednesday morning.
A tractor-trailer carrying tons of flour hit a 1983 Chevrolet Cavalier at Prairie Avenue and McGuire Road.
Rene Graven, 20, of Post Falls, was westbound on Prairie; she stopped at the intersection and then proceeded, witnesses told Kootenai County sheriff’s Sgt. Lee Richardson.
Truck driver Christopher Van Manen, of Sherwood Park, Alberta, was heading south on McGuire - which has no stop sign at the intersection - when he struck the car about 10:30 a.m., Richardson said.
Graven, who was wearing a seat belt, was taken to Kootenai Medical Center with cuts and a broken clavicle. She was listed in fair condition Wednesday evening. Van Manen and his passenger were not injured.
Van Manen was traveling about 45 mph, 5 mph under the posted speed limit, Richardson said.
The intersection north of Interstate 90 is known for its many collisions, the sergeant said.
“As everyone knows, we’re out here all the time,” he said. “I’ve almost gotten to know these neighbors by name.”
The highway department has put up flashing red lights on the stop signs.
