Cyclists with a yen to cross Washington in style can take advantage of an eight-day guided and catered tour organized by All About Adventures of Sandpoint.

Wheels Over Washington will cover 477 miles from Whidbey Island to Sandpoint starting on Aug. 19.

The route generally follows U.S. Highway 20 through the North Cascades, over Sherman Pass and south to the Pend Oreille River.

Total elevation gain over the trip is 31,000 feet, said organizer Ken Barrett. Cost is $800.

Sign up for All About Adventures’ Sept. 2 Green Owl mountain bike tour, the last in a series of these rides this season from the top of Schweitzer Ski area down the back side on a dirt road to Green Owl Tavern on the Priest River.

Riders enjoy 4,200 vertical feet of gravity assisted riding over the 23-mile tour. The $20 fee includes a guide and the bus shuttle back to Schweitzer resort.

The ride appeals to beginner riders and novices alike. Registration starts at 9:30 a.m. at the resort. Riders go to the top of the mountain on the resort’s quad lift starting at 10 a.m. and return to the resort by 5 p.m., just in time to enjoy the Blues and Brews event.
