Norbert Uhlenkott Colton, Wash.

Funeral Mass for Norbert I. Uhlenkott, 84, was held Tuesday at St. Gall’s Roman Catholic Church in Colton. Burial followed at the St. Gall Catholic Cemetery. Kimball Funeral Home in Pullman was in charge of arrangements.

Born in Keuterville, Idaho, Mr. Uhlenkott died Friday.

He served in the Navy during World War II, and in 1945 married Beatrice Forsman.

Mr. Uhlenkott worked as a railroad agent for Northern Pacific and Burlington Northern Railroads in North Idaho.

In 1956 they moved to Colton and he continued to work as an agent for the railroad. He retired after 34 years from Burlington Northern Railroad.

He later worked in the book store at the University of Idaho for more than eight years.

Mr. Uhlenkott was a member of St. Gall Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus and Colton Grange.

He also served as the mayor of Colton.

Survivors include his wife; five sons, Gary Uhlenkott of Spokane, Dan Uhlenkott of Castle Rock, Wash., Gale Uhlenkott of Seattle, Paul Uhlenkott of Crystal Lake, Ill., and Don Uhlenkott of Naples, Fla.; a daughter, Nadine Hanifen of Leesburg, Va.; a brother, Larry Uhlenkott of Cottonwood, Idaho; three sisters, Celest Sullivan and RoseMary Rodgers, both of Lewiston, and Mary Scholastica of Cottonwood, Idaho; and nine grandchildren.

Rosanne Mary, SNJM Spokane

Funeral Mass for Sister Rosanne Mary, 87, will be at 10 a.m. today at the Convent of the Holy Names. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Born in Chewelah, Wash., Sister Mary died Sunday.

She entered the Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary in 1931 in Marylhurst, Ore. She professed her vows in 1933.

Sister Mary began teaching grade school in 1933 in Washington and Oregon, and also served as superior and principal.

In 1981 she joined the religious education team at Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church in Spokane. She retired in 1994 and later worked at the Marian Hall for three years.

Survivors include a brother, William Nilles of Chewelah; and a sister, Marie Burya of Valley, Wash.

Memorial contributions may to the Sisters of the Holy Names Retirement Fund.

Margaret Marty Spokane

Memorial service for Margaret Grace Marty, 87, will be at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Maries Presbyterian Church. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Marty, who died Jan. 5, was born in Ferrell, Idaho, and raised in Ferrell and St. Maries.

Mrs. Marty worked at the Confectionery in St. Maries as a young adult. She later worked for the St. Maries Medical Clinic from 1963 to 1975.

She moved to Spokane two years ago.

Mrs. Marty was a member of the Ladies Elks Lodge in St. Maries and the St. Maries Presbyterian Church.

Her husband of 53 years, Dean, died in 1985.

Survivors include a daughter, Marilyn Weigand of Spokane; five grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Jean Johns Cheney

Service for Jean R. Johns, 72, will be at 11:30 a.m. today at the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

A 43-year Cheney resident, Mrs. Johns died Sunday. She was born in Chicago.

Mrs. Johns was a member of the Lilac City Dog Training Club, where she trained dogs for 17 years. She also was a member of the Spokane Club, Junior League, 4-H, Spokane Women’s Bowling Association and the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority.

Mrs. Johns was a board member of the Spokane Valley Foundation.

Survivors include her companion, William Tomlin of Cheney; three daughters, Wendy West of Camano Island, Wash., Heather Johns-Bosch of Port Orchard, Wash., and April Estelle of Renton, Wash.; a sister, Annie Zurmuehlin of Missoula; and 13 grandchildren.

Edith (Milla) Haggerty Spokane

Funeral Mass for Edith (Milla) Haggerty, 78, was Monday at St. Charles Roman Catholic Church. Private inurnment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery.

A lifetime Spokane resident, Mrs. Haggerty died Friday.

She graduated from Holy Names Academy and Sacred Heart School of Nursing.

After becoming a registered nurse she joined the Army Nursing Corp in 1943 and was assigned to a field hospital in Germany.

Mrs. Haggerty returned to Spokane and worked at Sacred Heart Hospice and then for Dr. John Black.

In 1954 she married Curtis Haggerty.

Mrs. Haggerty later worked at Holy Family Hospital for 20 years, and was named employee of the year in 1981.

She was a past officer and member of the Washington State Nurses Association.

Mrs. Haggerty volunteered with Meals on Wheels, the Spokane Area Visitors Information Center, the Northwest Center for Retarded Citizens and the St. Charles Senior Group.

Her husband preceded her in death.

Survivors include a daughter, Gina Bonine of Mercer Island, Wash.; three sons, Michael Haggerty of Seattle, Timothy Haggerty of Richmond, Va., and Robert Haggerty; three sisters, Mary Milla, Elda Wheeler and Helen Fillingim; a brother, Etter Milla; and five grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Charles Catholic Church or to Catholic Charities.

Celia (Reece) Olson Spokane

Service for Celia Ferne (Reece) Olson, 98, will be at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church. Burial will follow at Fairmount Memorial Park. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Olson, who died Sunday, was born in Spring Grove Township, Iowa.

She was a 49-year Spokane resident and a homemaker. She was a member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church.

Her husband of 62 years, Walter, preceded her in death.

Survivors include three daughters, Joyce Holm of Spokane, Velma Nilsen of Loon Lake, Wash., and Naomi Schafer of Bellevue, Wash.; a son, Roger Olson of Spokane; 21 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Joyce Nedbalski Spokane

Memorial service for Joyce M. Nedbalski, 86, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Riplinger Funeral Home.

Mrs. Nedbalski, who died Friday, was born in Vancouver, British Columbia.

She graduated from high school in the Seattle area and had lived in Spokane for 40 years.

Mrs. Nedbalski was a waitress for various restaurants.

She was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary.

Her husband preceded her in death.

Survivors include a son, Fred Pennington of Matthews, N.C.; a daughter, Carolee Kelly of Spokane; a sister, Isabel Rae of Seattle; five grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Joel Snyder Sandpoint

Service for Joel Curtis Snyder, 36, was Saturday at Pack River Cemetery near Sandpoint. Coffelt Funeral Service in Sandpoint was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Snyder, who was born in Sandpoint, died Feb. 5.

He grew up and graduated from high school in Sandpoint and owned a drywall business in the Sandpoint area.

Survivors include three children, Zachary, Isaiah and Laura Snyder, all of Sandpoint; his parents, Curt and Theo Snyder of Sandpoint; and three sisters, Charlotte Anderton of Post Falls, Kathryn Enggas of Des Plaines, Ill., and Peggy Snyder of Spokane.

Shirley (Wagner) White Otis Orchards

No service will be held for Shirley (Wagner) White, 70, at her request. Hennessey Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Born in St. John, Wash., Mrs. White died Saturday.

Her family moved to the Pleasant View area in Idaho in 1932. She graduated from high school in Post Falls.

She married Paul White in 1948 and they lived in Otis Orchards.

Mrs. White was a physical tester for Kaiser Aluminum for 27 years.

Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Shelly White of Chattanoga, Tenn., and Susan; a brother, Lloyd Wagner of Spokane; two sisters, Phyllis O’Neal of Post Falls and Lura Newby of Hertford, N.C.; and two grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association.

Kerry Henderson Spokane

Memorial service for Kerry L. Henderson, 66, is planned for 1:30 p.m. Saturday at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Spokane. Bonney-Watson Funeral Home in Seattle is in charge of arrangements.

Born in Spokane, Mr. Henderson died Sunday .

He served in the Army, the Army Reserves and the Army National Guard from 1949 to 1955. He received an honorable discharge as a sharpshooter with the rank of sergeant.

Mr. Henderson graduated from Rogers High school in 1951 and later received training as an electrical engineer through correspondence school.

Mr. Henderson worked for Columbia Electric from 1951 to 1962 first as a truck driver, then a warehouseman and then in sales. From 1962 to 1975 he worked as an electrical engineer for J.A. Tudor and Associates, covering Montana, Idaho, Eastern Washington and Eastern Oregon.

In 1975 he started Pool World with his wife and children.

Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Lyla; a daughter, Kariann Albert of Rockford; a son, Mark Henderson of Spokane; a sister, Virginia Hecox of Spokane; two granddaughters and a great-grandson.

Martha Hill Spokane

Service for Martha M. Hill, 85, will be at 11 a.m. today at Holy Cross Lutheran Church. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Burial will follow at Greenwood Memorial Terrace.

Mrs. Hill, who was born in Hosmer, S.D., died Saturday.

She moved to Spokane in 1954 and worked as a seamstress in the retail clothing industry.

Mrs. Hill was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church.

Her husband, Raymond, died in 1996.

Survivors include a son, Dale Hill of Port Orchard, Wash.; a daughter, Shirley Flambouras of Spokane; nine grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.

Donna Mullenix Spokane

Service for Donna M. Mullenix, 64, will be at 1 p.m. today at Heritage Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Greenwood Memorial Terrace.

A lifetime Spokane resident, Mrs. Mullenix died Friday.

She graduated from Rogers High School in 1953.

Mrs. Mullenix worked as a home health care provider.

Survivors include a son, Shane Mullenix of Spokane; two daughters, Pamela Mullenix of Huntington Beach, Calif., and Debra Morris of Costa Mesa, Calif.; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Romie Workman Sagle, Idaho

No service will be held for Romie B. Workman, 58, at his request. English Funeral Chapel in Coeur d’Alene is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Workman, who was born in Cincinnati, died Thursday.

He married Bonnie Boesch in 1988 and moved to Sagle in 1989. He had worked as a cabinetmaker.

His wife died in 1999.

Mr. Workman was a member of the Spokane Valley Eagles Lodge and the Sandpoint American Legion.

Survivors include six daughters; two sisters; and three grandchildren.

Alfred Stoeser Spokane

Vigil service for Alfred Morris Stoeser, 80, will be at 7 p.m. today at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Anthony’s Roman Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.

Born in Penn, N.D., Mr. Stoeser died Sunday.

He worked as a police officer for the Spokane Police Department for 25 years, and during that time, was the head of the stolen auto department for 14 years. He retired in 1969.

Survivors include his wife, Mildred; a son, Douglas Stoeser of Denver; two daughters, Penny Brugger of Spokane and Terrie Hanson of Seattle; a sister, Alice Scheider of Spokane; nine grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Paul Faires Colfax, Wash.

Service for Paul Faires, 85, was held Wednesday at Colfax United Methodist Church. Burial followed at the Colfax Cemetery. Bruning Funeral Home in Colfax was in charge of arrangements.

Born in Endicott, Wash., Mr. Faires died Saturday.

He was a farmer on the family farm in Colfax for 57 years.

Mr. Faires was the director of the Colfax Grain Growers and later the Whitman County Growers for 26 years. He was the past president of the Whitman County Pioneer Association.

Mr. Faires was a member of the Colfax Christian Church, the International Order of Odd Fellows and the Whitman County Encampment. He also was a member of the North and South Palouse County ASC Committee, Colfax Toastmaster, Fair Board and the Whitman County Pamona Grange.

His wife, Martha, died in 1983.

Survivors include two daughters, Helen Paulson of Spokane and Marcia Frichette of Pasco; a brother, Bill Faires of Othello, Wash.; and four grandchildren.

Gloria Cheek Hayden, Idaho

Service for Gloria Ann Cheek, 60, will be at 1 p.m. today at Yates Funeral Home, Hayden Chapel. Burial will be at Forest Cemetery in Coeur d’Alene.

Mrs. Cheek, who was born in Quebec, died Thursday.

She grew up and graduated from high school in Verdun, Quebec, and in 1959 married Dennis Cheek. They lived in Montreal, Quebec.

In 1961 they moved to Chula Vista, Calif., and she worked as a medical transcriber in San Diego, Calif.

They moved to Hayden in 1977 from the San Fernando Valley.

Survivors include her husband; two sons, Brian Cheek of Vancouver, Wash., and D.J. Cheek of New Orleans; three daughters, Dawn Davidson of Hayden, Joy Drake of Pullman and Kelly Wilch of California; her parents, Leonard and Mildred Stewart of California; a brother, Lenny Stewart of California; 11 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

Dorothy Dahman Spokane

Visitation for Dorothy P. Dahman, 86, will be from 9 a.m. to noon today at Heritage Funeral Home. Graveside service will follow at 1 p.m. at Sunset Chapel at Fairmount Memorial Park.

A longtime Spokane resident, Mrs. Dahman died Sunday.

She was born in Penawawa, Wash., and graduated from Colfax (Wash.) High School. She married Alvin Dahman in 1959.

Mrs. Dahman was a manager for a laundry and dry cleaner in Spokane.

She was a member of the Fowler United Methodist Church.

Her husband died in 1984.

Survivors include a daughter, Claudia Hart of Spokane; a brother, John Pazer of Spokane; two sisters, Elsie Fries and Bonnie Jones, both of Colfax; four grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Leona Nelson Spokane

Service for Leona I. Nelson, 76, will be at 2 p.m. today at Riplinger Funeral Home. Private burial will be at Riverside Memorial Park.

Born in Bowbelle, N.D., Mrs. Nelson died Saturday.

She was a homemaker and a Spokane resident for more than 50 years.

Mrs. Nelson was a member of the Hillyard Belles, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and Eagles Lodge auxiliaries.

Her husband, Harry, died in 1982.

Survivors include two sons, Loren Nelson of Prosser, Wash., and Larry Nelson of the Philippines; a daughter, Linda Gorst of Prosser; a brother, Earl Chrest of North Dakota; two sisters, Ruth Clement of Mukilteo, Wash., and Fern Sernsen of Arizona; 10 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
