District To Decide On Charter School
The Lake Pend Oreille School District board of trustees is scheduled to make a decision regarding the Da Vinci Charter Academy during a meeting tonight.
In order for the academy to open, the school board must give its approval. It would be Bonner County’s first charter school.
Charter schools receive some state funding, but do not have to abide by the regulations that are imposed on the public schools. Nor do they operate under local school board oversight.
Backers of the school hope to open the academy next fall for 120 ninth-and 10th-grade students, with five full-time teachers and a $915,000 budget. Eventually, they hope to add 11th and 12th grades.
The discussion and decision on the academy is expected during an open meeting following an executive session scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Student and personnel matters, along with property negotiations, records and litigation are to be discussed during the executive session.
The meeting will be held in the district conference room at 1123 Lake Street.
