Lewiston Couple Found At Campground
Searchers found a missing Lewistown couple Friday, stranded in a campground but apparently all right, Fergus County Sheriff Ronald Rowton reported.
“They went up to Dry Wolf Canyon Campground southwest of Stanford,” Rowton said. “They got stuck in snow, wiped out their transmission and ended up spending time in a cabin up there.”
Stanford is about 40 miles west of Lewistown, in Judith Basin County.
A ground and air search for Guy Gilman, 59, and Crystal Lee Rose, 57, had scoured central Montana by ground and air since Thursday. They had been last seen about 11 a.m. Wednesday.
Detective work at the couple’s house in Lewistown led searchers to them, Rowton said.
“We located a newspaper article they’d been reading that was talking about Dry Wolf Campground, so we sent the Judith Basin Search and Rescue and sheriff’s department up there, and they located them,” Rowton said.
The couple have a habit of taking scenic drives in the area for a few hours during the day. A daughter who lives next door usually knows where they are going, Rowton said.
“There’s so many places to go out here,” Rowton said. “It’s like finding a needle in a haystack.”
