M-K Division Given Glacier Road Contract

From Staff

A division of Idaho-based Morrison-Knudsen Corp. tentatively has the contract to rebuild the park’s Going-to-the-Sun Road.

Centennial Engineering Inc. of Littleton, Colo., was selected over 11 other companies, but a contract has not been signed. National Park Service officials hope to have a final deal within 30 days.

Montana industrialist Dennis Washington is chairman of Centennial’s Boise-based parent company.

The 52-mile Going-to-the-Sun Road, built in 1932, is a leading attraction in Glacier National Park but is deteriorating. The road allows visitors to drive over Logan Pass and provides spectacular views of the Rocky Mountains.
