Post Falls Endorses Project Safe Place
City Council members voted to endorse Project Safe Place within the city Tuesday night.
Project Safe Place is a nonprofit crisis intervention program designed for at-risk children.
It’s a collaboration of volunteer, corporate and city efforts that provide places where kids can seek any kind of help - from counseling to finding their way home.
Councilman Clay Larkin presented the idea to council members June 6. Beth Barclay, the group’s coordinator, showed a film at the City Council meeting Tuesday.
The program started in Coeur d’Alene last year. Now, 48 locations advertise the program and serve as “safe places.”
Barclay said Post Falls needs three things to begin the program: businesses to serve as sites, volunteers to respond to the sites, and educators to inform kids about the program at local schools.
Although people from Post Falls are signing up to help, Barclay said she needs more volunteers to take the volunteer training program.
Businesses and volunteers can call 676-0772 for more information, or to sign up for the program.
