School’S Request To Expand Denied

Elk Mountain Academy’s request to house 36 students was turned down by Bonner County Commissioners Thursday.

The Academy, located north of Clark Fork, now has county permission to house up to 25 students. School officials say they need the conditional use permit for 36 students to accommodate students being evaluated for entrance to the program, and those students who have turned 18, have moved off campus, but are still finishing their degrees.

The commissioners voted unanimously to turn down the request.

Elk Mountain was granted a conditional use permit last spring to house 25 students. The commissioners placed a two-year probationary period on the permit. This was the second time since that permit was granted that the school has requested to expand.
