A-3 Basketball

Wallace Miners

1999-00 record: 10-12

Coach: Art Krulitz

Years coaching, record: 8th, 56-93

Key players: Stephanie Lavigne senior, 5-7, forward; Katie Branstetter, junior, 5-7, guard; Rachelle Zent, jr., 5-9, post; Heather Connor, jr., 5-6, f; Brittany Lee, sophomore, 5-6, point guard.

Bonus shot: Low turnout has Krulitz and his brother, Kirby, both having to take long baths to soak weary bones trying to keep up with the players.

Coach’s comments: “We lost eight to graduation and one moved away. But I think once we get rolling, we should be competitive. We have real good speed this year, and the chemistry on the team is real good.”

Outlook: The focus is going have to be one game at a time. The Miners’ 20 games are just preparation for a shot at contending at state.

Lakeside Knights

1999-00 record: 16-10

Coach: Ron Miller

Years coaching, record: 12th, 179-99

Key players: Kaela Moore, sr., 5-5, w; Jackie Johnson, jr., 5-7, f; Raven George, fr., 5-8, p.

Bonus shot: The Knights have eight players on varsity and seven are new.

Coach’s comments: “Everything is new. It is going to take us a couple of games to find out where we are.”

Outlook: It’s a new era at Lakeside. The Knights are going to take a few dents before they begin to shine.
