Whits Produce Fourth Straight Win

Substitute Brendan Siefken assisted on one goal and scored another during a 19-second span of the second half Wednesday, helping Whitworth defeat visiting Whitman 3-0 in a Northwest Conference men’s soccer opener.

The Lupton brothers shared the spotlight. Senior Mark scored into the top right corner just before halftime, and junior goalkeeper Doug earned the shutout.

Whitworth (5-1-1 overall) won its fourth consecutive match, all by shutout. The Pirates haven’t allowed a goal in 415 minutes of play.

The Missionaries are 3-4.

Dustin Allbery recorded his first collegiate hat trick, all three goals within 15 minutes of the second half, to seal a 5-0 win for CCS over Walla Walla at Spokane Falls CC.

The Sasquatch are 5-2-1, 3-0.

Also in the NWAACC, Casey Schanz and Scott Briggs scored first-period goals from midfield to give North Idaho College (4-0-1, 4-0) a 2-1 win over visiting Columbia Basin (2-2-1, 1-2-1).

Women’s soccer

Dalyce Young fed three corner kicks to Carly Sullivan for headed-in goals, and Whitworth (3-1-1) defeated visiting Whitman 7-0 in a Northwest Conference opener.

Young, the conference leader with eight assists, also scored a goal off a corner kick. Sullivan’s hat trick gave her five goals for the season.

The Pirates won their third consecutive match. Whitman is 0-3.

Sarai Heminger scored late in the first half to guide Walla Walla (1-1 NWAACC) to a 1-0 win over CCS (3-5-1, 2-1) at SFCC.

Also in the conference, Sherry Albano’s first shot glanced off a defender for a goal at 8 minutes, and visiting Columbia Basin (3-1, 2-1) went on to a 2-0 win over NIC (3-1-1, 2-1).

Volleyball

Joelene Bogle and Beth Vercic combined for 18 kills and 31 digs to guide CCS to a 15-12, 15-7, 15-13 win over visiting Yakima Valley in the NWAACC.

Tovah Trimming and Allison Tingey added eight kills apiece for the Sasquatch (10-7, 1-1). Kylee Sixkiller had nine kills and 10 digs for the Yaks (0-2 NWAACC).
