Harriers unsung

High school cross country has begun with many great teams ready to give it their all to win state championships, and once again The Spokesman-Review gives us a lack-of-luster article about the meets in which these young kids participate.

Little to no information is given by Mike Vlahovich other than the typical this team won and this team lost. Please give us some details.

For those of us who went to the Ferris/U-Hi/Central Valley meet, yes, we know Ferris won and ran an incredible race. It deserved praise. But why stop there? How about mentioning some of the other events that took place? For instance, you could have mentioned that for the entire race Ben Hawkins and Dave Betts from Ferris continued to fight for the No. 2 spot with University’s Brandon Stum only to watch Brandon give it his all at the end and claim that spot. That was truly worth watching.

Or how about mentioning Ryan Lancaster? With his previous setbacks affecting his running last year, he proved you can’t count him out and placed fifth.

And where was the information on the junior varsity race?

Some of us who are continually bored with the pro sports stars getting busted for drugs or complaining about not making enough money, feel this is all we have. These kids and many others deserve some praise for their talents as well. I am tired of reading one-sided articles in your sports section. Even the Mead/Mt. Spokane/Shadle meet article was vague. I rely on your paper for this information. Do us a favor, if you can’t write a truly informative article, don’t write one at all. Char Dauterman Spokane
