New Golden Oreo gets a four-star flavor rating
Summer must be coming. Even the traditional dark and cream-stuffed Oreo cookie has a new sun-drenched look.
Nabisco’s signature cookie is now available in vanilla. Instead of the traditional chocolate cookies surrounding a creamy filling, there is now a Golden Oreo.
Most people on The Spokesman-Review reader food panel liked the update. They’re Oreos after all. The Oreo’s blond brother received a four-star rating from the panel.
“Just what I would expect from a vanilla Oreo,” said Marilyn Moore.
“Chocolate, vanilla, strawberry, blah, blah… . It’s Oreo. It’s good,” said Larry Inman.
While we were noshing on sandwich cookies, the panel also tried some of the more traditional looking Oreos that Nabisco has stuffed with two flavors. The Mint ‘n Creme and Coffee ‘n Creme Double Delight Oreos also earned four stars from the panel for taste.
“It’s impossible for an Oreo to taste bad, no matter what you put in the middle,” Inman raved.
Skip Hubbard added, “Classic Oreo (taste), but minty.”
There was one dissenter in the bunch. Donald Clegg not impressed by the new look, or the new flavor — only because he likes the original so much.
“Like Lay’s Potato Chips and Coca-Cola, I’m a classic Oreos fan. Nonetheless, these would do in a pinch,” he said of the new mint cookies.
Oreo’s Double Delights also come in chocolate and peanut butter flavor. And there’s a Golden Oreo for the chocoholic. Golden Uh-Oh Oreos are vanilla cookies stuffed with chocolate filling.
