Devil Rays 3, Red Sox 1: At Boston, Scott Kazmir overcame control problems to hold Boston to three hits over six innings, and Tampa Bay beat Boston. Kazmir (4-7) walked six to bring his A.L.-leading total to 62, struck out seven and allowed an unearned run.
Indians 6, Royals 2 (5): At Cleveland, Cliff Lee was credited with his first career complete game and Ben Broussard homered as Cleveland snapped a five-game losing streak with the rain-shortened win over Kansas City.
Yankees 11, Rangers 10: At Arlington, Texas, Jorge Posada, Gary Sheffield and Hideki Matsui hit home runs and Ruben Sierra hit a go-ahead, two-run single in the eighth to give New York the victory over Texas and move the Yankees into first place.
White Sox 7, Tigers 5: At Chicago, Joe Crede’s three-run home run highlighted Chicago’s five-run seventh inning as it beat Detroit for its fifth straight win after losing three in a row heading into the All-Star break.
Orioles 3, Twins 2 (11): At Minneapolis, Sammy Sosa homered to move past Mark McGwire on the career list with 584, Rafael Palmeiro had three hits to tie Al Kaline with 3,007 and Miguel Tejada homered in the 11th inning to lift Baltimore over Minnesota.
Angels 5, Athletics 2: At Anaheim, Orlando Cabrera’s two-run single capped a four-run sixth inning and Vladimir Guerrero had two RBIs to lead Los Angeles over Oakland.
National League
Astros 11, Pirates 1: At Pittsburgh, Humberto Quintero’s three-run double in the fourth inning ended Houston’s season-long scoreless streak in Pittsburgh and the Astros beat the Pirates. Pitcher Brandon Backe, who doubled in the third, followed Quintero’s three-run double with an RBI triple in the four-run fourth.
Rockies 5, Nationals 4: At Washington, Washington third baseman Vinny Castilla’s second error of the game allowed Colorado to score the game-winning run in the ninth inning.
Cubs 9, Reds 4: At Cincinnati, Derrek Lee hit two of Chicago’s five home runs off Brandon Claussen and became the first major leaguer to allow 30 homers this season in a win over Cincinnati. Todd Walker also homered twice, extending his hitting streak to 11 games.
Cardinals 11, Brewers 4: At St. Louis, Albert Pujols homered, singled, doubled and scored four times, helping Matt Morris earn his 11th win for St. Louis in a victory over Milwaukee. Mark Grudzielanek added three hits and three RBIs.
Braves 6, Giants 1: At San Francisco, Andruw Jones hit two two-run home runs and Chipper Jones homered in his first at-bat in six weeks to lead Atlanta over San Francisco.
