Rural Roots hosting seminar

The Spokesman-Review

Rural Roots will host a workshop Friday and Saturday designed to help Inland Northwest farmers and ranchers market their wares to local residents, restaurants and stores.

“Making the Local Connection: Direct Marketing in the Inland Northwest” will be held at the University of Idaho in Moscow. Speakers will talk about cooperative farming, self-sufficiency on a small family farm, recovering from low-profit years and creating a community through good food. The conference is also sponsored by UI’s College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.

Workshop sessions will include discussions of selling to restaurants and retailers, organizing and managing a local farmers’ market, tips for organizing and hosting on-farm events and the Inland Northwest “Buy Fresh Buy Local” campaign. The cost is $60 for Rural Roots members, $70 for nonmembers and $20 for students.

To register for the conference, go to www.info.uidaho.edu/conferences or call (866) 651-5322. A conference brochure can be found at www.ruralroots.org, or for more information, call Jeannie Matheison (208) 883-3462.
