Linkages group seeks senior input on study

North Idaho Linkages is asking Panhandle residents in the 60-plus age group to study the following choices and pick the three most important in each category. Results are due by June 6. Service choices are:

•Share patient information through computer systems.

•Ask local schools to encourage students to interact with seniors.

•Create a uniform record form.

•Use the Internet and interactive video to link case managers in the region.

•Integrate services to avoid wasting seniors’ time.

•Encourage multigenerational activities at senior centers, churches and schools.

•Use interactive video to save seniors travel time.

Access choices are:

•Create a community database with senior information service providers can share.

•Strengthen the medical and support service computer information database that exists.

•Create resource kiosks throughout North Idaho.

•Expand the 2-1-1 resource phone line to include more senior information.

•Offer informational programs through the media and short courses in the community for seniors.

•Offer public service announcements about senior health care and support services.

•Expand the computer-based system for entering and sharing patient information.

Improving care choices are:

•Create a caregiver Web site for exchanging ideas and training opportunities.

•Offer Web-based and interactive video training.

•Include caregivers as part of a patient’s treatment team.

•Offer caregivers more opportunities to train and compensation for training.

•Create guilds and support organizations for caregivers to help with benefits.

•Help change income ceilings and age requirement laws so senior volunteers can earn stipends.

•Encourage caregiving work as a calling with job opportunities and training.
