St. Maries claims volleyball crown

St. Maries swept its way to the Intermountain League volleyball title on Tuesday in Spirit Lake.

The Lumberjacks (17-3, 6-0) breezed to a 25-21, 25-13, 25-12 victory over Timberlake (8-11, 1-5) and wrapped up the championship with two league matches remaining, thanks to a pair of earlier wins over second-place Bonners Ferry.

Jenna Robinson had 10 kills and four aces to lead the way for St. Maries.

In other IML action, visiting Kellogg (9-7, 2-3) outlasted Priest River (10-10, 2-4) in five games.

•In Inland Empire League play, Danielle Jacobson and Melissa Duncan had nine kills apiece and Jacobson added nine digs to lead Lakeland (8-8, 4-5) to a 25-17, 25-23, 26-24 win over visiting Lewiston (9-10, 2-9) at Rathdrum. … Kelsey Taylor totaled 13 kills to lead visiting Moscow (20-0, 9-0) to a 25-19, 27-25, 25-16 victory over Post Falls (7-15, 3-6). … Tabi Mabrey had 11 kills and three aces to help Lake City (15-6, 7-2) earn a 25-14, 20-25, 25-23, 25-19 win over visiting Sandpoint (2-9, 2-6).

•In North Star League play, Hannah Nyrob had 14 kills, 12 digs, three aces and three blocks to lead Kootenai (17-1, 10-0) to a 19-25, 25-8, 25-17, 25-15 road win over Lakeside (5-8, 4-5) at Plummer. … Visiting Mullan (1-13, 1-8) earned its first win of the year with a 24-26, 25-22, 24-26, 25-23, 15-3 victory over Post Falls Christian (4-9, 3-6).

Boys soccer

In Inland Empire League play, Cody Steele scored a pair of second-half goals to finish with a hat trick and Lake City (6-4-2, 4-3-1) rolled to a 5-0 victory over visiting Post Falls (6-6, 3-6). … Iovko Margaritov scored on a first-half free kick for Lewiston and Garret Lowell found the net in the 59th minute for Coeur d’Alene as the Bengals (4-5-2, 4-3-1) and Vikings (7-2-4, 6-1-2) played to a 1-1 tie. … Chase Lowther notched a pair of goals and Michael Brewer added a goal and three assists as Sandpoint (11-1-2) romped to a 9-0 win over visiting Lakeland (2-11, 1-9).

Girls soccer

In Inland Empire League action, Jamie Meyers had a goal and two assists to lead Coeur d’Alene (12-2, 8-1) to a 5-0 win over visiting Lewiston (3-8-2, 0-8-1). … Becca Stone scored twice and added an assist to carry Sandpoint (8-4-4, 7-1-2) to a 3-1 victory over visiting Lakeland (9-4-1, 6-3-1) in a battle for second place. … Emma Hawn scored twice in a 2-minute span early in the first half and Lake City (7-5-2, 3-4-1) cruised to a 4-1 road win over Post Falls (4-9-1, 2-8).
