Spokane firm lands key deal with Wal-Mart

A Spokane company will provide Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. with copies of a safety instruction DVD to train the retailer’s executives on how to protect themselves on trips outside the United States.

The deal, announced this week, is the largest single corporate contract for Safe Travel Institute, a Spokane business launched in 2004, said Randy Spivey, its director. The company has had larger previous contracts providing travel guidance for government officials, he said.

Safe Travel will provide customized versions of its Safe Passage DVD to the global retailer, said Spivey.

Wal-Mart will pay in excess of $65,000 for the DVD products and related training. That’s a discount from typical corporate rates, said Spivey, but was negotiated to help Safe Travel cite the Wal-Mart deal in future promotions to corporate customers.

In addition, Wal-Mart plans to sell copies of the Spokane company’s Safe Passage DVD inside Sam’s Club stores nationwide, starting in November, said Spivey.

The Safe Travel Institute has about 15 employees with offices at 108 N. Washington.
