Yankees 11, Angels 8: At Anaheim, Calif., Bernie Williams homered twice and drove in six runs, Derek Jeter hit two home runs, and Robinson Cano had four hits as New York got the victory over Los Angeles.
Orioles 5, Devil Rays 4: At Baltimore, Miguel Tejada singled in the winning run in the ninth inning, and Baltimore extended Tampa Bay’s road losing streak to 10 games. Jeff Conine had two RBIs for Baltimore before being traded to Philadelphia for cash and a player to be named after the game.
Blue Jays 10, Royals 6: At Toronto, Bengie Molina hit a grand slam that led Toronto over Kansas City. Gregg Zaun and Vernon Wells also homered for the Blue Jays.
White Sox 6, Twins 1: At Chicago, Mark Buehrle won for the second time in two months, A.J. Pierzynski and Joe Crede hit consecutive home runs and Chicago got the victory over Minnesota to cut Minnesota’s lead in the wild-card race to a half-game.
Tigers 7, Indians 1: At Cleveland, Curtis Granderson led off the game with a homer and Marcus Thames, Carlos Guillen and Ivan Rodriguez later connected as Detroit beat Cleveland. They won for only the sixth time in 19 games, since Aug. 7 – when they held a 10-game lead in the Central.
Rangers 3, Athletics 0: At Arlington, Texas, Vicente Padilla allowed four hits and Matt Stairs homered as Texas beat Oakland, stopping Oakland’s three-game winning streak. Oakland was shut out for the ninth time this season.
