Bruins thump Titans to remain unbeaten

Arron Afflalo scored 20 points and Josh Shipp added 16 to help No. 1 UCLA pull away from Cal State Fullerton (5-2) in a 78-54 victory Tuesday night in Los Angeles.

Afflalo hit four 3-pointers, Shipp added 16 points, including three long-range baskets, Darren Collison had 15 points and Lorezno Mata had a career-high 16 rebounds for UCLA (7-0), which improved to 9-0 against Fullerton, winning every game on the Bruins’ home court.

(9) LSU 64, (6) Texas A&M 52: At Baton Rouge, La., Glen Davis scored 24 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to help the Tigers beat the Aggies.

Texas A&M (7-1) had won 14 consecutive regular-season games and had not lost since being eliminated by LSU in the second round of last season’s NCAA tournament.

(14) Arizona 72, Louisville 65: At New York, Ivan Radenovic had 22 points and 13 rebounds for the Wildcats, who overcame a terrible shooting second half for a victory over the Cardinals (2-2) in the Jimmy V Classic.

The Wildcats (6-1) had a 44-35 halftime lead then missed 17 of their first 18 shots from the field as they lost – then retook – the lead.

(22) Oklahoma St. 72, (21) Syracuse 68: At New York, Mario Boggan had 21 points and eight rebounds and the Cowboys (10-0) remained unbeaten by holding off a furious rally by the Orange (7-2) in the Jimmy V Classic.

(24) Xavier 88, Detroit 55: At Cincinnati, Josh Duncan scored a career-high 25 points and led a 3-point flurry that swept the Musketeers to a victory over the Titans (2-6).

At 7-1, Xavier is off to its best start in 10 years and back in the national rankings for the first time in more than three years.

(17) Marquette 65, Delaware State 48: At Milwaukee, Jerel McNeal scored 16 points to help the Golden Eagles (10-1) beat the Hornets (3-6).

Four Marquette starters scored in double digits as the Golden Eagles bounced back from their loss to unranked North Dakota State at home Saturday.

Women

(23) New Mexico 76, Arizona 63: At Tucson, Ariz., Julie Briody scored 25 points and Katie Montgomery added 18 as the Lobos beat the Wildcats (5-4).

Riverside High grad Angela Hartill finished with 12 points for New Mexico (6-2), which shot 65 percent from the field in the first half.

(6) Tennessee 85, Tennessee-Martin 29: At Knoxville, Tenn., Candace Parker scored 17 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to help the Lady Volunteers (7-1) respond to their first loss by beating the Skyhawks (4-2).

Minnesota 74, (25) Nebraska 65: At Lincoln, Neb., Brittany McCoy made tiebreaking free throws with 1:44 left and the Gophers (8-2) held the Cornhuskers (6-2) without a field goal the last 3:52 in a victory.
