Dorothy dean favorite

The Spokesman-Review

Margie Yongue of Blanchard, Idaho, says the Dorothy Dean recipe that she uses “over and over” is for Pink Divinity.

The recipe was part of the flier for suggested holiday goodies, but it might make a nice Valentine treat for your sweetheart.

Yongue says the recipe is easy and uses gelatin so it can be any flavor you choose. “It’s still a family favorite, but you best have a heavy-duty mixer because I burned out a hand mixer making the divinity a few years ago.”

Pink Divinity

3 cups sugar

3/4 cup light corn syrup

3/4 cup water

Dash salt

2 egg whites

1 (3 ounce) package red gelatin (raspberry, cherry or strawberry)

1 cup chopped nuts

1 teaspoon vanilla

Mix sugar, corn syrup, water and salt in saucepan. Stir until sugar is dissolved. Cover; bring to a boil and cook for a minute or two to wash down sugar crystals. Remove cover; cook without stirring until syrup reaches the hard ball stage (260 degrees) or until mixture is slightly brittle when dropped into cold water. Beat egg whites until frothy; add gelatin gradually. Continue beating until stiff peaks form. Slowly add hot syrup; continue beating until candy becomes creamy. Stir in nuts and vanilla. As candy sets, quickly drop by teaspoonfuls onto waxed paper.
