Guests will serve gems on Olsen blog
Taste Everything Once blogger Jennifer Olsen is handing over the keyboard this week.
Olsen, who writes about food, cooking and local restaurants at www.tasteeverythingonce.com, has invited local chefs and foodies to take over her blog this week.
The guest bloggers started posting on Monday and will be writing through Friday. What’s on the menu? Andrew Larson of Jimmy’Z musing about a day in the life of a chef and notes from KHQ news reporter Ana Cabrera about favorite local eats. The rest of the line-up was a bit uncertain when we last talked, but it might include: Serena Thompson of the Farm Chicks and Country Living magazine; Eli Penberthy from Friends of the Farmers’ Market; Alan Shepherd, co-owner of Rocket Market; and Mizuna server and Okané sushi chef Amy Olsen-Deline.
While you’re there, click around. There’s plenty of stuff for every palate. Read Olsen’s reviews of local restaurants and coffee shops. Her husband Remi Olsen also reviews restaurants or you can post your own assessment of local restaurants. Right now, Olsen is hosting a “Dine and Dish” for area Vietnamese restaurants.
There are also forums for talking about everything from your favorite Costco buys to the best local iced coffee drinks to sharing recipes for cakes. And there are podcasts on coffee and soda and links to other local bloggers.
If all goes well with her guest blogger week, Olsen says she may do it again this fall.
Join the farm tour
Here’s a chance to see where local food lives when it’s not at the farmers’ market.
Friends of the Farmers’ Market is hosting a tour on July 24 of three organic farms about one-and-a-half-hours north of Spokane.
There’s a 7:30 a.m. departure for three stops: Quillisascut Cheese farm, Cliffside Orchard and Crandall Coffee and Orchard.
At Quillisascut, owners Rick and Lora Lea Misterly will introduce their goats and give samples of their cheese. Cliffside Orchard owners Jeff and Jeanette Herman will offer a tour of their organic cherry, apricot, nectarine, peach, apple and pear trees. They’ll also share a taste of some of the season’s first peaches.
Finally, the tour stops at Riverview Orchard for a sack lunch break. Then, owners John and Janet Crandall will lead a tour of the farm stand and offer a bit of organic coffee as a mid-afternoon pick-me-up.
The carpools will return to Spokane by 5 p.m.
The cost is $20 or $15 if you’re a member of Friends of the Farmers’ Market.
