Reader Food Panel: Salad Spritzers a dieter’s friend

It’s a dieter’s dream dressing.

No more guessing when it comes to the number of calories drizzled on salad. Simply count the times you press the pump. Wishbone’s new Salad Spritzers vinaigrettes have a single calorie in each spray.

Food panel tasters liked the Balsamic Breeze and Red Wine Mist. We served them an undressed salad with the new salad dressings disguised in a brown paper bag so they could do the spritzing themselves.

“A new era for salad dressings,” said Marilyn Moore. “The spray-on trend.”

“What a great way to save calories,” said Peggy Kazanis.

Tasters liked the flavor of the dressings as well.

“Slightly sweet and light, this would be a great summer dressing,” said Tina Johnson, of the balsamic vinaigrette.

Andy Hoye liked the taste of that dressing as well. “Dense and nutty, not too much vinegar. It would work as a dipping sauce also.”

Marcia Oranen liked the red wine version. “Very good. Tangy yet not too acidic.”

The only complaints were from some tasters who thought the dressings tasted like they contained too much vinegar. Others said the dressing seemed to slide right off the lettuce greens.

“It’s a great dressing, although it seems to bounce off the lettuce and ended up in the bottom of my bowl,” said Skip Hubbard.

The dressing also is available in Italian Vinaigrette flavor.
