Bulldogs, Cougars record wins
Darin Holcomb drove in five runs Wednesday as Gonzaga defeated Bucknell 12-2 in seven innings at the Pepsi/Johnny Quik Classic baseball tournament in Fresno, Calif.
Holcomb (Shadle Park High) hit a three-run homer during a six-run third and added a two-run double during a four-run fifth.
Bobby McEwen (2-1) struck out six and allowed two runs in six innings for the Bulldogs (12-9), who will play Lafayette this afternoon.
Pinch-hitter Alex DeOteris had a two-run double for the Bison (4-7).
Also at the tournament, Wayne Daman Jr. improved to 5-0 and Jared Prince hit his first homer of the season as Washington State (17-4) rolled to a 10-2 win over Lafayette (3-6).
Daman allowed one run and five hits in eight innings, striking out seven.
Prince had three RBIs as the Cougars reached double digits in runs for the sixth time this season.
WSU faces host Fresno State tonight.
Men’s basketball
Whitworth senior forward Lance Pecht (West Valley High) was named to the D3hoops.com All-West Region first team, in a vote of regional sports information directors.
Pecht was named Northwest Conference player of the year after leading the conference in scoring at 18.8 points per game. Pecht led the Pirates to a 20-7 record and within one win of the Division III tournament.
•Community Colleges of Spokane sophomore Jeremy Mangum was named most valuable player of the Northwest Athletic Association of Community College’s East Division.
CCS sophomore Erik Bell also made the first team. Sasquatch freshman Humberto Perez made the second team.
