Mobil 1 Lube Express offers quick work for vehicles

Christopher Rodkey Staff writer

In the land of quick-lube shops, visibility is everything.

Tucked between a restaurant and a gas station, Gregg Bailey’s Mobil 1 Lube Express can be hard to spot when zipping down Sprague Avenue. But inside the two service bays, workers are ready to perform a full range of maintenance work on almost any car or truck.

“Everyone here has had experience working on cars and in the quick-lube businesses,” Bailey said.

Bailey and partner Jay Pfeifer started the business last summer and have worked on painting and preparing the place for a few months. They opened Sept. 16, and business has been steadily increasing, Bailey said.

Bailey works on the cars himself, getting his hands dirty and enjoying it, he said. Previously he worked as a fraud investigator for a local credit card company.

“It’s nice to do something you enjoy instead of sitting in front of a computer,” Bailey said. By being involved with his store, he can keep tabs on what’s going on, he said.

“I know what’s going on day in and day out,” Bailey said. “I’m connected.”

The Mobil 1 Lube Express features all manner of fluid changes for vehicles, as well as filters, belts and other maintenance items.

As part of an oil change, workers also will clean windows, check tire pressure and vacuum out the car. A full-service oil change is $29.99 but a special $21.99 price is running through the end of the month. The only thing the crew can’t do at Mobil 1 Lube Express is mechanical work.

Bailey said he plans to expand the Mobil 1 Lube Expressto other locations in the Spokane area, hopefully reaching five more stores in the next five years.
