Oregon extends Kent’s contract
Oregon coach Ernie Kent has agreed to a five-year contract extension after leading the Ducks to the round of eight in the NCAA tournament, the school said Wednesday.
The agreement, representing a raise of $200,000 a year, pays Kent $1 million a year through the 2011-12 season.
Incentives could push the total to $1.3 million.
The contract stipulates a payment of $1 million if Oregon terminates the contract before it expires, but it does not have a buy-out clause on Kent’s part.

Chewelah pitcher perfect
Pitching against Northeast A League leader Kettle Falls, Chewelah’s Jordan Monasmith, threw a perfect game Tuesday.
Monasmith retired all 21 batters she faced against a team that had won its first three league games and was 7-1 overall entering the contest. She struck out 10 and allowed just two balls out of the infield.
“When it got to the end of the game I was behind 3-0 on one of the batters and I could hear my grandpa in the background calling, ‘Calm down, Jordy, and throw a strike,’ ” Monasmith said. “Then it hit me that I had to get it in gear. My mom didn’t even know.”
She said she might have thrown a no-hitter as a sophomore, but that was it.
“I was feeling pretty good,” she said. “And it was a very big accomplishment for the team.”
