West rolls over East in All-Star game
YAKIMA – Josh Freeman returned an interception 40 yards for a touchdown and the West romped to a 32-7 victory over the East in the 2A-1A-2B All-Star football game on Saturday at Zaepfel Stadium.
Kettle Falls’ Brian Strobel returned an interception 62 yards for the East’s lone score of the game. Strobel, who scored the TD in the second quarter to pull the East within 13-7, was named his team’s defensive player of the game.
Pullman quarterback J.T. Levenseller completed 4 of 11 passes for 39 yards with no interceptions for the East. He also rushed seven times for 19 yards.
Freeman’s Chris Davis carried the ball six times for 18 yards.
Taylor McMahon of Riverside had four catches for 27 yards to pace the East receivers.
Washington State University-bound offensive lineman Steven Ayers was named the offensive MVP for the West squad.
The 6-foot-4, 275-pound Ayers, who will compete in football and track and field, was a stonewall blocker and pass protector for an offense that rolled up 336 yards.
Quarterback Chris Bolt, who led Lynden to the 2A state title last season, passed for 132 yards and a touchdown and ran for the West’s first score.
Other area players competing for the East were Mike Meines (Pullman), Logan Goff (Colville), K.C. Cross (Freeman), Brandon Hoover (Kettle Falls) Kyle Nelson (Davenport), Jake Ferderer (Reardan), Alan Colvin (Reardan) and Phillip Luft (St. John-Endicott).

The Colorado Rapids U-23 team (4-3-1) rolled to a 4-1 victory over the Spokane Spiders (4-5) in Premier Development League play in Boulder, Colo.
