Husky women bow out tournament

Shay Murphy made all six of her free throws in the final minute and scored 14 points in leading Southern California to an 81-77 victory over Washington in the quarterfinals of the Pac-10 tournament on Saturday night in San Jose, Calif.

Jamie Funn scored 13 points, including a crucial jumper after making a key block in the final 2 minutes for the fifth-seeded Women of Troy (17-12), who meet top-seeded Stanford in today’s semifinals. The Cardinal beat Arizona 65-55 in an earlier game.

Cameo Hicks scored 18 points to lead the fourth-seeded Huskies (18-12), who came in having won five of their last six.

Elsewhere, Emily Westerberg (Central Valley High) scored five straight points during a key second-half stretch to finish with 13, leading No. 9 Arizona State past UCLA 74-64 and into the semifinals. The Sun Devils face 25th-ranked California, a 63-51 winner over Oregon, today.

Big Sky

Megan Porter scored a team-high 19 points and eclipsed 1,000 for her career as Northern Arizona (18-11, 11-5) closed out the Big Sky Conference women’s basketball regular season with a 66-63 win over Eastern Washington University (10-19, 5-11) at Cheney.

EWU led the entire first half, twice by as many as 10 points.

Phynique Allen led EWU with 25 points, six rebounds and six assists.

WAC

Katie Madison had game highs of 20 points and 13 rebounds to power the Idaho Vandals (6-21, 3-13) to a 69-66 victory over the San Jose State Spartans (4-26, 4-12) in a Western Athletic Conference regular-season finale in Moscow.

Lindsey Koppen added 16 points and eight rebounds for Idaho, while Charlotte Otero chipped in with 14 points.

Lynette Jacobs scored 17 and grabbed 11 rebounds to pace the Spartans.
